Mother Grub (On Hold)

Chapter 2

     Kanaya. That's what her name would be. You really did like the name, and thought it fitting for the sweet little one. The Jade bloods started noticing how you favored her, cuddling her and teaching her different skills, while you tended to let the other grubs do their own thing. It baffled them how you had stopped going by your rule of 'no favorites'. And it worried them how you would react when little Kanaya was taken and given to another lusus. And you could not fathom the thought of letting her go. You kept teaching her more and more, tactics for fighting mostly. She had to get through the trials. She had to. The days until the little ones were grown dwindled and your worry only increased, the fear of Kanaya's death overtook your dreams. It was only the night before the trials, when all the grubs had left to sleep by themselves except for your precious daughter who snuggled you, that you realized what you had to do. But first you ordered a Jadeblood over.
"Excuse me, little one" you called to a passing troll, "I need to know something..."

"Of course, beloved mother. W-what is it you must know?" He was obviously new, he looked so nervous, the poor thing. If you remembered correctly, he was eight sweeps old. You remembered him and his siblings. He was always so small and shy, it was nice to know he had survived. You had called him Verno, but his lusus probably gave him another name.

You gave him a patient smile, like the ones you used to give him as a Grub "Could I possibly.... keep Kanaya?" You were hopeful, you almost never asked for anything, and when you did it was given at once. But Verno looked like he would say no
"Dearest mother, I do not know. I will ask my superiors, but I don't think they will say yes. I'll go ask now" And with that he scurried off to ask.

Your heart was broken. You had to keep Kanaya. She was your baby! She was precious to you! So that's when you put your plan to action.
