Chapter 2

"So, basically every night Griff won't go to sleep until Brock kisses him goodnight! It's so sweet but it's frustrating when he has a night game that doesn't end until almost midnight!" Lakyn sighed, and I nodded.

"Wow..." I mumbled.

"Car, what's wrong?" She looked at me and I shook my head.

"Nothing Lake! I'm just, I'm tired! I drove over 13 hours from Cincinnati to here and hearing you talk about how cute Brock is with Griff, isn't exactly doing anything for me!" I sighed, and she reached over and grabbed my hand.

"Carlin, I know this is hard-"

"No Lake, you don't!" I hissed. "You and Brock, you two are perfect! You guys have everything! A beautiful home, successful careers, a beautiful son, you guys have pretty much everything! You can't say you know what this is like or you know how hard it is! You've never most somebody Lake, your life, it's always been perfect! You never lost your husband, you never lost your best friend, and you never lost your child!" I gulped, tears forming.

"What do you mean lost your child?" Her face went cold and I shook my head.

"Forget I said anything Lake!" I sighed, standing up. "Back guest room or downstairs?" I gulped and she pointed towards the stairs.

"Back..." She mumbled and I nodded, grabbing my purse before going upstairs.

*Andrew's POV*

"Wait, so Lakyn has a sister?" I gulped, looking over a Brock who was racking the balls.

"Yes sir! She just turned 22 in November I think? Or was it October?" He looked at me and I laughed slightly. "It was November!" He smiled.

"Where were you guys hiding her?" I smirked and he laughed shaking his head.

"Cincinnati, Ohio! Not too far from your home town!" He tossed me a pool stick and I nodded. "You break 'em!" He sighed taking a sip from his water bottle.

"What brings her out to Boston now? It's the end of March!" I gulped, walking over to the other side of the table, grabbing the cue ball from Brock.

"She's had a rough past few months!" He sighed and I looked at him strangely, slowly placing the ball on the table. "In December, the weekend before Griff was born, she had found out that her husband had died overseas! They got married right out of high school, she was 18 and he was 19! There were high school sweethearts! Hell, they went from 8th grade all the way through till his death! He was a First Sargent in the army and he was hands down the nicest kid in the world! She was supposed to jump on a flight out here that night but, things changed! Lakyn was heartbroken because she couldn't be there for Carlin and Carlin was heartbroken because she lost the only person she ever truly loved!" Brock gulped and I nodded, shooting the cue ball, breaking them up.

"So what brings her out here?" I nervously chalked the stick and he shook his head, setting up his shot.

"She'd kill me if I told anyone!" He sighed, looking over at me. "She won't even let me tell Lakyn the real reason why she's here! Lakyn thinks it's because wanted to see Griff and because she was starting to become depressed but damn, there is so much more to it!" He huffed, getting in one of the ball. "Solids..." He smiled softly and I laughed, nodding my head.

"I'm better with stripes!" I smiled.
