"Who knows we're here?" Sameera asked."Why is it too late?" Kat whispered fearfully.
She was as white as a ghost. But Mr. Folman did not answer. He just kept dragging us down the hallway, his face expressionless. We stopped at a door that was labelled,
Martha J. Gerdalli
Principal
The door opened, and Ms. Gerdalli stepped out. Ms. Gerdalli was quite young for a principal, and had no husband, kids, close friends, or probably any friends at all. I could see why. Although she was beautiful on the outside, she was a cactus on the inside. She wasn't one of those principals, where if you showed her a piece of art work you made, she would hang it up in her office and give you a sticker. Oh no, on the contrary, she would scold you for being vain, and wreck the art work.
Ms. Gerdalli had always reminded me of a crocodile, who waits hidden underwater for its prey to come and take a drink. Now, standing before me, she looked more deadly than ever. She was grinning very broadly, and you could see all of her perfect teeth. She was looking at us like we were lab rats, with those eyes that seemed to say,
Trust us... Come on, you know you want to... Trusssst ussss.
"Don't trust that woman!" I shouted in my head so loudly, I thought I had actually spoken.
She curled her long, brunette hair into a bun and said, "Well done Folman. I see you've caught the infants. Sneaking around eh?" She narrowed her eyes at us.
"Yes Ms. Gerdalli. Thank you Ms. Gerdalli." Mr. Folman replied without emotion.
I looked at Mr. Folman, then at Ms. Gerdalli, and back at my teacher. A minute ago, he was freaking out, and trying to get us to leave, and now, he was answering to this woman like a zombie!
"Trespassing," she hissed, "is a crime. I could have you arrested for this."
Any colour that was left in Kat's face vanished.
"But..." she continued, "I have something even better in store for you."
Mr. Folman's finger twitched ever so slightly, but his face remained blank.
"You young ladies," she leaned in close, "will be competing in the E.Q.A.O. Games."
