Chapter 2 - Cardboard Boxes

I let out a huge sigh as my eyes wondered the lonesome room. It was seven forty and James was already up, I could tell because he was hysterically crying. I couldn't stop thinking of how he felt. My heart sank as low as my pelvis, I stared around the empty bedroom and examined the cardboard boxes labelled 'Family Antiques' and 'Elena's stuff'. Springing out of bed, I went to James room and knocked softly above his handwritten sign saying James.
"Is this a bad time to ask, but are you ready to move today?"
I heard him sniffle, and after a second he replied.
"I'm ready. I'm fine. Come In, if you want."
I smiled and slowly turned down the handle, walking into his compact, organised room. He wiped his distraught face and tried to look strong in front of me. I scanned his boxes and gave him a reassuring smile.
"I can see you're ready!" I said happily.
"Yeah. It feels like I'm leaving our parents behind!" His mouth dropped and he broke out In tears.
"I know how you feel James, everything will be ok. I will take care of you. I promise."
I leant in and gave him a hug. I guess we had a moment. A moment me and James don't usually have, (both crying) we snuffled and awkwardly moved away.
"Okay. I'll urm..urm.." I stuttered. "I'll go make breaky!"

I left his room and heading downstairs to the 'hardly used' kitchen. I gathered 4 eggs and toast, and put them on to cook. I put my phone on the side near the stove and carried on frying the eggs. After five minutes of leaving my phone, it started rapidly vibrating. I leaned over and focused my eyes on the caller... It was Matt. Is it bad I kind of forgot I had a boyfriend; I thought to myself. I swiped across the decline button and checked on the cooking toast.

"BREAKFAST!" I shouted loudly.
James came stomping down the stairs, kissed my cheek and took his breakfast to the dining table.
I came and sat next to him and started dipping bits of my toast in the runny egg. He looked at me with a confused expression on his face.
"Everything okay James?" I asked him.
"Why are you ignoring Matt?" He replied.
"I'm not James?" How did he know?
"Ye you are. I just had him on the phone... Crying!" James sighed.
I gave out an ashamed look and carried on eating.
"I love him James, I'm just not in love with him... I don't need more stress than I already have." I told him the truth.
"So I tell him it's over?" He considered.
"Yes.. Say it as nice as possible?" I moaned back.
"Actually, you can tell him yourself." He said.
I groaned and went to get my phone, I went on the contact named "Matt my boy💞💞💞" and pressed the text message button. It took me about 10 minutes to find the right words. I ended up writing: "Matt, we've had some good times, but I have too much stress to continue our relationship? Don't you agree, I love you.. But I'm not in love with you anymore. I'm sorry. You deserve better😣😔".
I meant what I said, but it seemed harsh. I pressed the send button and gulped looking towards James. He smiled and plonked his plate in the sink.

After breakfast, I called for a huge van to come pick up the cardboard boxes. Once he got here, he loaded the van up and set off on his long journey.
