Kaitlyn’s POV

“…What?”

“Katie, let me expla—“

“You’re…breaking up with me?”

“NO! Not breaking up! I just want to—“

“WHAT? YOU WANT TO WHAT?”

“Just, call off the engagement for while. I just think we need a little time before we make this commitment! Stop yelling!”

I fought back tears. “Wh—why are you doing this? Why?”

“Babe, don’t cry. We’ll get back together soon!”

“Don’t…don’t call me that.”

He reached out to touch my arm. “C’mon, Ba—Katie, I just want to postpone—“

I slapped his hand away. “Don’t touch me.”

He said nothing.

“You…you still haven’t told me why.”

Silence.

“Screw you.” I shoved past him, headed to my car.

“So this is it? You’re just gonna leave?”

“I decided I don’t actually want to hear your crappy explanation.” I called over my shoulder.

I slid into my car and slammed the door. He was yelling, but I couldn’t hear it. As I screeched out of the parking lot, tears began streaming down my face. I loved him—I still love him—and he broke my heart.
