                                          Point of View
                                         Rainer Devine

I jolted awake, sucking in a huge breath. My head rang, and the white lights around me was almost blinding, I could hear loud cars honking around me, loud distant chatter, everything was a jumble in my head, I felt it was going to explode.

"Doctor!! Doctor!! He's awake!" I hear someone scream, which added more to the migraine that wracked my entire being. I clutch my temples, in desperate attempts to calm my head down.

The doctor stormed in, his grey eyes shocked,  some other doctors followed him and stopped in their tracks mirroring the doctors expression.

My brain can't process anything, just pain and sudden hunger at the moment, the doctors rushed to me, trying to calm me down, I felt a syringe stabbed into my arm, and slowly I fell back to sleep.

When I woke, the first thing I saw was my mother, her blue eyes widened with shock, worry, relief, a plethora of emotions, before I began to process anything, my mother pulled me into a bone crushing hug.

"Rainer, my baby," she sobbed relentlessly. The doctor came in to check me, my mom pulled away drying her tears.

"Your vital signs are all good, this is a miracle." The doctor said.

"I...I don't understand." I mutter, I felt better, unlike the first time I woke up, but I was still so hungry.

"You were hit by a truck," the doctor explained. I narrow my eyes in confusion, not because I didn't suddenly remember the accident, but because I felt fine, my body felt okay, more than okay.

"I feel, okay." I aired out my thoughts.

"That's the miracle, when you were brought in, you were bad shape..."

"But all that matters now is that you're fine." My mom cut the doctor off, frowning at him. They were chatting, but their voices were distant, all I could hear were the thumping of their hearts, each beat pumping blood throughout their bodies, it echoed in my ears and my hunger seemed to increase.

"Rainer," My mom called out snapping me from my trance. I blinked, gazing at her.

"I asked if you were okay," My mom said smiling at me.

"I'm fine, just hungry." I said. My mom nodded.

"Let's go home." My mom said. The doctor told us he wanted to run some more tests, but my mom insisted she wanted me home, she took me home despite the doctors protests.

Scenes from my accident, began to play in my head, my heart tighten when I remembered how it went down, but then it was truly a miracle how I was okay, like I wasn't run over by a truck.

My mom parked in front of the house. She turned to me her blue eyes gleaming.

"We are home son," she said. I noticed how tired she looked, the bags under her eyes, her pale skin even paler.

"I'm sorry, I made you worry so much mom." I said. She wiped the forming tears in her eyes.

"Oh my baby boy, I prayed to God for a miracle, and he answered me, you're okay now, and that's all that matters." She said. I smiled nodding at her, my mom was a hard core Christian, I wasn't so much a believer, but that might just change, because I am here, and for some reason...alive.

My mom and I got off the car, she unlocked the door, walking inside. I tried to enter my house, but I was pushed backwards, I almost stumble but caught my balance.

"What the?" I mumble, furrowing my brows. My mom peered from the kitchen.

"What are you doing out there Rainer, come on in, I'm preparing your favorite." She called beckoning me inside. I nodded, I walked putting one foot ahead of me, past the door, nothing happened. I was sure something pushed me back before, I shrugged it off, I was imagining things.

I walked inside, my mom was cooking dinner, I couldn't wait to eat, my stomach craved some food, I don't think I've ever been hungry like this in my life.

I was immediately tackled on the floor, my mom gasped.

"You're back, Cricket," My psychotic best friend said, straddling me to the ground, then hugging me.

"Erin get off me," I said trying to push her off, damn she's strong for a girl. My mom sent us both disapproving glances. I shift my gaze back to Erin, her hair was short, shoulder length.

"Your hair," I said touching it. She sat up, tucking a lock behind her ear.

"Yeah, it's curly and untamed,  so I cut it off, I've had this new style for three weeks now," she said grinning. I smile, but my smile vanished when I heard what she had just said.

"What? Three weeks? How long have I been in the hospital?" I asked glancing at my mother and then back at her, I raised my brows at their silence and nervous looks.

"Well?"

"Six months," Erin muttered, shifting her gaze from me. My jaws unhinged, I was hospitalized for six months?!

"The doctors, tried to keep you alive after the accident, but you allegedly died, yesterday." My mom her voice barely above a whisper, as if she couldn't relieve the memory of hearing those words, that her son died.

"It's a miracle, Rainer." Erin said hugging me once more, sobbing quietly. I've never seen Erin cry before. A miracle.

"Oh, I got you something." Erin said wiping her eyes and sniffing, she handed me a lunch bag.

"Strawberry slushie, your favorite." She said. I smiled removing the pink colored drink, I dipped a straw in it, drinking the sweet Strawberry goodness, it felt so good.

"Hey, not too much of that sweet tooth, dinner is almost ready," My mom warned, "Erin, are you staying for diner?" She said shifting her gaze to Erin.

"No, I have to be at work, night shift. I just had to see Rainer," she said her blue eyes focused on mine.

"See you at school tomorrow," she said. Then she frowned, "you are coming right?"

My heart fell, and I felt my face ashen. I didn't think, I could face them.

"He just recovered, he's not going if he doesn't want to." My mom said.

"He's fine, Mrs Meyers, look at him." Erin said, "Rainer, everyone at school, we're worried sick about you."

Not Everyone.

"I don't know, if I want to yet, I don't know," I admit. Erin's shoulders fell, she sent a smile my way.

"Oh, you got a lot of flowers and gift from almost all the students at Jamieson high." Erin said, she dug her hands into her pocket, "here's mine."

It was a hand chain, it had half a heart with the initials E, I knew she had one with R on it, it was like a friendship bracelet.

"I thought you didn't want to give me this half," I said stretching my hands, as she put the bracelet around my wrist.

"I changed my mind Meyers," she said her blue eyes glinting, "besides, it goes well with your grey eyes." She smiled before heading out the door, she glanced over her shoulders.

"I'm glad you're back Rainer Meyers."
