My name is Jade. Jade Ivy Matheson. I'm 16 and I am an orphan.

After my mom died, I was sent from foster home to foster home.

Normally, if you have any living relatives you are sent to live with them, but I am not normal. Far from it actually. My dad left when I was just a baby. I would spend long countless nights pondering on the reasons why he left.

Was it because he could not handle the responsibility of a child? Did he not love my mother anymore? Or did he just not love me? These very questions would kill me everyday, wanting to know the answers. Though sometimes I worry that once I find these answers I still wouldn't be complete. I would have to deal with the reality of the fact that my own flesh and blood may not have wanted me.

Although I love my father, I hate his guts. He should be ashamed of leaving his family behind. I'm not even sure if he knows my mother is dead.

**************FLASHBACK**************

I still remember the day she died like it was just yesterday. My mother took me to the park that day. It was my 7th birthday and I had just gotten a brand new doll. I named her after my mother, Lucy.

As I was playing on the swings, a tall, well-built man came towards my mother who was sitting on the bench. He said, "Follow me ma'm, if you know what's best for you and your daughter". I didn't know who the man was, but I knew he was bad news. My mother refused to follow him and called me over telling me it was time to go home. Being the defiant 7 year old I was, I refused to go and demanded that we stay just a little while longer. "Jade honey, we have to go. Its almost time for dinner. I bet Lucy is as hungry as you are." she said.

The tall man was still standing there , as if he was a statue, just watching my mother trying to get me to leave. "NO MOMMY!! I WANNA STAY HERE AND PLAY!", I said. Then, all of a sudden, the tall man picked me up and dragged me towards his black ford truck on the far end of the park. My mother screamed as if she was going to die and chased after the tall  man who was taking away her only child. I screamed and continued to scream until the man suddenly dropped me onto the hot asphalt as if I was a dirty old rag, crouched down, and whispered into my ear, " Listen here baby girl and listen well. Now you better shut up and get your self into that truck or it will be the last time you'll see your dear mommy ever again." I instantly shut my mouth as he picked me up and hauled me towards his black truck, my mother still close behind.

I didn't know what to do. When we reached his truck, the door swung open revealing two men  in black ski masks. The tall man who was carrying me told one of the unidentified men to keep me under control while he took care of my mother. I was then shoved into the car. At the same moment my mother arrives and attempts to reach for me but the tall man grabbed her and pushed her to the ground. I yelled out, "Mommy!!" as the tall man pulled out his shiny black gun. He shot my mother right therein front of me, in broad daylight. Her body went limb and my face paled. I couldn't bare the pain. The sight in front of me was too much for my 7 year old brain to handle.

I screamed and screamed, begging for the man to bring my mother back to me. All of a sudden, one the men behind me brought a white cloth to my face and pressed it harshly onto my mouth and nose. In seconds, everything went black.
