Adobo

"So this is Adobo?" I ask looking at the main course while he, on the other hand, stared furiously on the food. I don't know what's up with him. "Why it doesn't look like one? It's different from the photo." Said I showing him his iPad in which he snatched right away.

"Having different color doesn't mean they're the not same. I guess it'll tastes the same. I hope so." The last sentence was inaudible I needed to ask him. "Never mind, let's just eat." He still couldn't take his eyes away from the Adobo he made.

I grab my own chair opposite to where he seated. Note to self, this man is not a gentleman at all.

I don't know why it feels awkward, maybe because it is my first time here, new environment, new faces and new...food? Okay, this is still food right? I mean, it tasted like as if I am drinking the whole ocean. I can't help but grimace. I fight the urge to puke in respect to the food and to him as the cook. Aside from that, I need to fill my stomach or else I'll suffer.

As far as I want to vomit, I refrain myself from doing so and drink a glass of water every now and then instead.

Almost through with my worshiping food, I notice that I am the only one whose noisy. I look up only to see a blank face. I slowly put down my spoon and fork.

"Don't you know that staring is rude?" I said raising my brow. My throat dries. I reach for the pitcher but its was empty. I saw him look at the thing I'm holding then turn to me.

He cleared his throat, "I'm sorry." looking at the food in front. I look down and saw his plate empty. No sign of leftovers. "C-can we go somewhere else?" Said he in a shy manner.

I first thought, I am imagining things but I did saw him in red. I mean, flushed face and red ears. He rose from his seat and shoved the plates to the sink. Even the adobo he made landed in the trash bin.

"C'mon, I know a great restaurant from the city." He walk past to me and get his car keys. I quickly stood up yet still puzzled by his sudden change of heart.

"We're still having dinner---" I stopped when he turned to me with sharp eyes. W-what did I do? Did I say something offended him?

"You call it dinner? Well, I don't." I was about to protest when he pulled me by the wrist and drag me with him. I even almost stumbled on the floor! This guy has no mercy. I can't believe I'm with this man!

While we were in the elevator, I can tell that he has something on his mind and wants to say it but choose not to. He's obviously deliberating.

"You don't have to be shy when you're with me." I give him a smile to lessen his tense. "I know you want to tell me something, what is it?"

He's back with his stern look and slides both his hands in the pocket, ignoring my question. The elevator swung open and he immediately steps outside.

When I heard the unlocking of his car, I welcome myself on the backseat. "I'm not your driver, sit here beside me." I want to refuse but I'm afraid he might get mad at me. Instead of moving out from the car, I stretched my legs with my body forward to the passenger seat. Easier than the usual.

"Woah, remind me to clean this car tomorrow." he said whistling when he saw me laid my boots on the passenger seat. I rolled my eyes, dirt-freak.

Even at this hour, the traffic is unbearable. These are all new to me, I can't help but awe. I don't feel annoyed at all unlike the man beside me.

"You seriously enjoyed the traffic?" I only smiled at him and turn my eyes outside. Skyscrapers, signature vehicles, billboards, infrastructures and the likes, such a picturesque at night. I can't keep my head at one place.

I am learning to love this place now. I felt like I am in a new world. A world where I can be myself. A world where my freedom is.

"You're unbelievable." there's mockery on his tone. "None all of these in your place?" he ask chuckling. "Don't get me wrong but you seemed fascinated in the view even if we're stuck in the traffic." I know what he meant. No need to beautify.

"You mean if this is my first time in a place like this? Then it is." I said half smiling no intent of meeting his gaze.

"You sure you really are a human?" No, I am a robot back then. A moving corpse. But you don't have to know that.

"What do you think?"

"Because I think you're an ape. Seriously, are you still stuck from the old stone age period?" Ape is way better than the robot or a moving corpse. Too good for your metaphor.

"Then I guess I am." as to what I have heard from my private instructors, apes can move freely without anyone bossing around. Without being cautious and obedient the entire time. I am nothing but a mere tool.

"Seriously?"

"Are we there yet?" I glance at him then to the front when I saw him slows down.

"Can I ask you something?" He asks me instead of answering. Am I confusing him? Or was he finds interest with my life...behind.

I guess the latter. "Shoot."

"Where are you came from?" Just as I thought.

You're no difference.

"You don't want to know."

He seems startled for a bit but recover afterwards.

"Anyway, let's go in?"

Oh, I almost forgot. "Why do we have to eat here? I mean, you cooked adobo for our dinner." He said he was on a broke state and then this. I hope I am not guessing it right.

"Oh that?" says him scratching his neck. "I guess I owe you an apology." He can't even look straight in my eyes. If my guessing is correct, then it was a disaster after all. Adobo doesn't tastes like that. "And I owe you once more."

"What do you mean?"

"I forgot my wallet and I can't access to my accounts. I'm...sorry."

Oh great, just great.
