Daniel's large family followed behind him, Lucy, Olivia, Dylan and Gabby as they wheeled Dylan down the path in the forest backing up Daniel's home. Lucy breathed out a cloud of mist as she turned to look back at the lights of Daniel's home, still visible and closer than she thought, it felt like they had been walking for a while. She shivered softly and tightened her coat collar around her neck, "I want summer back."
Daniel chuckled and wrapped half of his scarf around her shoulders, "Want me to keep you warm?" He purred again, winking. Lucy blushed and leant closer to him, snuggling into his side, "Flirt." She grumbled playfully.
"Tease." He smirked back, wrapping an arm around her waist. Behind them, Olivia silently pointed the camera on her phone at their backs, snapping photos. Her sister, Elisa caught up to her and sniggered softly, "Really Liv?"
"Ohhh yeah." She grinned, "I can't help it, they're just so adorable."
Elisa grinned but nodded, "This is true."
Daniel hurriedly covered Dylan's eyes, "Ok, keep your eyes closed for a sec buddy."
Dylan pouted but did as he was told while Lucy took over, pushing his wheelchair as Daniel lead the way, "Everything set Dad?!" He yelled out around the corner.
"All good!" Carter's voice yelled back. Daniel grinned and gestured for everyone to follow him around the corner. Lucy struggled to push the wheelchair over the bumpy track but managed and turned the corner with the others to see a tree house with a ramp leading up to it. It had multicoloured lights around the roof and the ramp was decorated with paper circular lanterns. Olivia gasped and covered her mouth, "Oh Danny, it's just like the one you both had years ago."
Daniel smiled and tapped Dylan's shoulder, "Alright, open them."
Dylan opened his brown eyes and stared at the treehouse in front of him, "You re-built it!" He beamed. Daniel and Carter smiled at him, "Yeah, took a while but, we managed." Daniel caught Lucy's eyes, seeing her large smile. He blushed and smiled back.
"My back is killing me." Carter groaned, leaning against his wife, "So, you like it?"
"I love it! It looks just like the one in our backyard before it collapsed! Can we go in?"
"Well duh, why d'you think there's a door there dummy?" Daniel teased but pushed the chair up the ramp. He looked over his shoulder at Lucy, "Coming?" He held a hand out to her. Lucy blushed but took his hand anyway and followed him and Dylan up the ramp, Olivia and Carter behind them.
"Whoa!!!!!" Dylan gasped as he looked around, "It's exactly like the old one on the inside too!"
Daniel grinned down at him, "Glad you like it bud." He ruffled his brother's hair and let his father move his chair around the room. Daniel leant against a small desk and smiled over to Lucy, who was still by the door. He pulled her to him by the hand and kissed her forehead. Lucy grinned and rested her hands around his waist, "Did you and your dad really build all of this?" She murmured. Daniel nodded before pulling off a glove, "Wanna see my battle scars?" He teased, turning his palm over to show her small red marks where splinters were. Lucy winced and looked at him shocked, "You didn't sand the wood down or wear gloves?"
"No I didn't." He laughed softly, "Totally forgot to. We didn't have a lot of time and I was a little over excited in my defence."
Lucy rolled her eyes and giggled before they turned to Dylan, "Lucy check it out, mine and Danny's old Rollerblades!" He grinned, holding up a small pair of orange and black skates along with a slightly larger blue and white pair. Lucy laughed softly and walked over to him, "You guys used to skate?"
"Yeah, but I was better at it than Danny." Dylan gloated, puffing his chest out proudly. Lucy laughed and looked over her shoulder as Daniel piped up, "I will admit that I had a hard time staying up but I got it, thank you."
Lucy grinned as the family teased Daniel further, "Oh really? You would come back home black and blue." Carter smirked.
"And covered in dirt and grazes." Olivia pointed out.
"And whine and whine and whine about it." Dylan added.
"Ohh, triple burn sweetie." Lucy smirked as she spun a blue wheel on Daniel's old skate.
"Why are you all so mean?" Daniel pouted.
Lucy mimicked his pout before smiling and tapping his cheek, "I love you really."
Daniel smiled back before taking the skate from her to look at it, "Jeez my feet were big for a child." He hummed.
Dylan sniggered, "Hehe, I'm related to Bigfoot."
Daniel smiled but hit his brother extremely softly in the arm, "Shut up."
Dylan poked his tongue out at him before he looked at the rest of the stuff on the table, "Playing cards, yo-yos! Everything we had when we were younger. This is awesome! Thanks Danny, thanks Dad." He grinned up at the two.
"You're welcome Kiddo." Carter grinned, hugging his youngest son tightly while Daniel patted his back softly, "No prob. Just wish I got permission to build it nearer to the hospital.
Dylan shook his head, "No, I think it's better here. Wouldn't be a tree house if it's not in a tree."
Daniel smiled and nodded, "Yeah I guess you're right. I'm just glad you like it."
"I love it!" Dylan beamed brightly.
