I heard keys clanging. I cringed at the sound. I hated keys, because they locked doors, and I hated locked doors. I feel shut out, like I'm missing out on something when a door is closed.
But little did I know that soon, closed doors would be what my life would depend on.
-----
It was a Saturday afternoon. My family was gone for the weekend. On a small trip to Athens, Ga. My grandparents lived there and we didn't get to see them often, so we go whenever we can. They have this amazing, huge, Victorian house. Sure, it was beautiful and breathtaking but it creeped me out. And my grandparents were REALLY old and probably only had about 5 more seconds to live. I know, I know, that's mean, but it was true! I love my grandparents, I really do, but I'm not close to them. If they died tomorrow I'd be sad but I wouldn't be permanently scared for life. But enough about my grandparents, now back to my story.
When we pulled into the gravel driveway, an odd cold feeling swept over me. It was 80 degrees outside and it suddenly felt like 30.
"Is anyone else cold?" I asked, shivering.
"Amber, it's 80 degrees outside." My mom responded, sounding annoyed.
We all hopped out of the car and went around back to the trunk. Dad popped the trunk open and we all scrambled to grab our bags. Once the chaos calmed down we walked up to the big, grand, marble porch. It looked quit old actually. It had big grand, whit and black marble pillars. There were vines growing down a couple of them, which added to the eerie feeling. The house kind of reminded me of The Supreme Court House. We used the door knocker on the old wooden door. The knock echoed. We waited for a moment. No, more than that. It began to get creepy. We wondered if there was even even anyone in there.
"Drew, go look through the window. See if anyone is in there." My mom ordered my little brother.
He walked over to the window which was just a couple of feet away and peered in.
"Grandpas in there. He's just asleep on his reclining chair." Said Drew.
"Great."
My mom attempted to knock on the door again. My grandpa jolted awake and came to answer the door.
"Oh my precious family! Look how much you two have grown!" He said in a tired raspy voice, looking at me and Drew. Then he walked up to us and hugged us.

We went inside and sat next to Grandma, who was snoozing just as Grandpa was doing.
