Chapter 2: Evasion

3:24 a.m.

I froze in my tracks. Who could be there at such a moment? I heard faded voices outside of a man and a woman. Suddenly, my cogs started to spin and I remembered. Mom and dad. They had landed probably 20 minutes ago from California. "Why isn't my boy opening the door?" I heard mom speak. "Maybe 'your boy' is still a heavy sleeper." Dad answered. Hearing these voices, my neighbour, Abigail opened her door, greeted them, and introduced herself. She welcomed them in her flat for the night and my mother readily agreed. After I heard her door close, I got to work. I figured out that I had to find a way outta this thing. But first I had to decide where I was going to keep the body. I ran to my wardrobe and looked for something. My eyes hit a glossy plastic cover. "Perfect" I said, smiling, looking at the Darth Vader suit. I picked up a hoodie for myself too. I couldn't go out and show everyone the blood I had on my hands. Without any further ado, I took the suit out to the foyer and started to cover the body in it. The clothes were a little too tight but I made them fit. A little piece of paper fell out of his pocket. It was a standard sized photograph. I looked at the three people in it. A man with a scar which ran down from his cheek bone to his chin, a small, beautiful boy and a smiling lady, all looked so happy. I looked at the expressionless face of the man and then at the small boy. I wiped a tiny teardrop from my eye and murmured "Sorry kiddo, I got a life too." I put the mask on his face and picked him up on my shoulder. For once in my entire life, I was grateful to those weightlifting exercises I used to do in high school. I quietly opened my door and locked it from outside. I could hear classical music from Abigail's house and laughing voices. I headed for the stairs and reached the ground floor. I opened the main building door and walked into the cold breeze of Los Angeles. I turned right and walked towards my car, a dark blue Chevy. I unlocked it and made the limp body sit in the passenger seat next to me. I put on the seat belt on him and got into the driver's seat.

I stood at the end of a cliff, the hobble body on the muddy ground beside me, his head bent at a strange angle. I looked down again. A big dump of garbage was kept atleast 200 feet below the cliff in totally unorganized piles. I took a good look at the man again, and pushed him off. The drop made a sick sound which made me feel like throwing up. I put a hand to my mouth and swallowed it back up. I sighed heavily and went to the entrance of the LA dump where I had parked my car. I went inside, closed the door and sat still for a moment not even bothering to turn up the heat. I picked up my phone to see if there was anyone that I could call at such a moment. It showed one new message. I opened it and my heart started to thump in my chest. I got out of the car and looked around to see anyone at all. The phone slipped from my grip and fell on the ground. I started to sweat and my head started aching with confusion. I picked upthe phone and read the words again and again. "I SAW IT ALL" it said....
