"She said what?!" I asked Adrian tears streaming down my face in laughter. Adrian puckers his lips in a flirtatious attempt as he folds his shirt revealing his six pack.
"B-but Adrian just one last time." He whines. Adrian has been my best friend since freshman year, we met in a pretty typical way for two award winning athletes. I was doing what I usually do during my free time, working on my percentages in the school gym when the boys made it a point to say I play way better than Adrian. So, in an effort to prove his 'unsurpassable talent' he proposed a shoot off. Which, of course, I won.
Funny enough, we actually tried the whole dating thing our sophomore year but things got way too ugly and complicated. This was also when Adrian fell into the popular trend of cheating so we put things to an end before our friendship was on the line. Since then, we've been inseparable.
"Now that right there is what I call desperation." My other best friend Leah states with a small smirk on her face.
"Don't act like you don't want me either, Leah. We know your dirty little secret." Adrian teases.
"You're cheating on me?" Carter says faking a sad face.
Leah rolls her ash gray eyes. "It'd be a cold day in hell. And that goes to both of you."
"I know I'm not the only one starving here." I pouted at my empty tray.
"Milan, we understand you're hungry... so are we. But babe? You eat like a dude." My friend, Tony, states as he flips his curls out of his face.
"You eat like a dude." I shoot back.
"Probably because I am one, I don't know." He states sarcastically.
"How would I know?" I fired.
"Wanna see?" He asks me.
"Thanks but no thanks, I don't have my glasses on." I say, as I stare at his pizza.
"But you don't wear glasses?" He questions.
"Exactly." I say taking a bite out of the delicious slice. Carter and Leah shoot their hands up for a high five. Those two are known for their ability to tag team.
"Eh, not high five worthy. Could use some work." Adrian states.
"Sounds like a hater's speaking to me." I roll my eyes, my mouth full.
Carter, Adrian, and Tony dive into a conversation about girls they plan to bang during the summer and I turn my attention to the 6 foot 5 sexy beast that walks into the cafeteria.
"Who is THAT?" I ask my best friend.
"Hello? Do you like, live under a rock? That's Noah Nguyen. One of the best basketball players in the state? Number one in our class...I don't know his Dad got this big promotion and something about him changed." Leah licks her lips. "Well..everything." She looks at me with a worried expression. "Where the hell have you been this month?"
"Never heard of him," I bite my lip, "wish I had." I laugh and Leah looks at me in shock. "I'm kidding, I'm kidding." I say. An unfamiliar feeling evolves in my stomach and I glance at Noah one last time.
"Excited for basketball season?" Leah asks me, changing the subject with a big smile on her face.
"Excited? Nah. Relieved? Yes. It's been MONTHS." I state, exaggerating.
