Marian's heavy breaths were the only sound that broke the silence in the dimly lit field. The blood from a cut over the left side of her mouth was steadily bleeding and her wrist stung from when she twisted it, trying to break a fall. Across the grassy field stood a boy, around 18, who looked almost as beaten and bloody as she was.

"Please don't do this, Connor." Marian pleaded, "We can go against Kain together. It doesn't have to be this way."

"You know it does, Marian. I don't want it to come to us two." Connor stood straighter, flexing his arm. The machete that he held dripped with blood. "It's easier this way."

Marian raised her aching hand to wipe away the blood that was pooling into her mouth and gripped her knife, "Please." She pleaded again.

Connor shook his head one last time and charged at the injured girl. Marian raised her knife in defense but just before Conner brought his arms down in a fatal blow, Marian was shaken awake.
