A few minutes later of tense silence she suddenly stops and without turning says to me "We're here." then takes a sharp left and heads down one of the side alleys.
I look at the buildings on either side and wonder if its still a good idea to follow her. The building on the left side looks like an inn but the all the windows are barred or boarded up. If it weren't for a light on the third floor I would of guessed it was abandoned. The building on the right looked like a general store. The front window had the shades drawn but I could see there was a light on behind it. The wooden sign over the door those was almost worn smooth. I can't even make out the logo on it and decide I should just hurry up and get this over with.
Inside the alley is almost clear aside from a few dumpsters and a pile of trash bags. She's standing next to one of the dumpsters with her arms crossed and another annoyed looked on her face. "So wheres the stuff?" I ask as I continue to walk towards her. I'm a few meters away she she sticks her hand out.
"Stop. Face the entrance and make sure no one else is nearby. If I see you peak back at me, I'll knock you out with the pot you asked for."
Guess she doesn't trust me anymore. Oh well, not like I'll ever see her again, so I turn towards the entrance and listen to the rustling sounds she's making behind me. A few seconds later I hear a couple metallic clanks. A second later there's some more rustling, and then she says
"Alright you can turn back around now"
As I'm turning I get winded by the metal pot she shoves into my chest. "Thanks" I manage to wheeze out as I go to grab the handle. As I try to take it from her she tightens her grip and says.
"Remember what I said about you squealing on me."
"You mean your threat?" I retort and tug on the handle.
"Not a threat" as she says this she lets go "a promise. Now go home to mommy and big bad cop daddy, and get out of my sight."
Yup, definitely not on her good side anymore. I'll have to make sure to avoid this part of town for the next couple weeks. I turn to leave and after a few steps without turning I wave the pot by the handle and say "C'ya." All I hear in return is a little rustling and a snort.
The instant I round the corner I'm floored again. As I go to see who it is I think to myself maybe I should just avoid this place forever.
"Watch where your goin' kid! If I wasn't so busy tracking a thief I'd report you for assault!"
I know that voice.
"wait, I know you."
It can't be.
"Is that one of my pots?!"
I raise my head and gulp. Its the shopkeeper from before.
His face is turning beet red with fury "I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN YOU WERE IN LEAGUE WITH THAT RAT! ANY UPSTANDING CITIZEN WOULD HAVE GRABBED ONTO HER AND MADE SURE SHE WAS PUNISHED FOR HER CRIMES!"
If looks could kill, his face would make even the undead stay down, and he seems like he's more than willing to kill me with his bare hands.
"Well! Are you gonna tell me where your brat of a girlfriend is hiding or am I gonna have to beat it out of you!" his voice got deadly silent near the end of that and he started to roll up his sleeves.
"She's that way, I swear!" I say with a panicked tone while I adopt a scared expression at the same time.
"How dumb do you think I am?! There's no way I'm falling for the misdirection crap again!" He says as he throws a punch at me.
