4131 Kennington court, I passed by this vacant yet astonishing house every day on my way back from school. It had been vacant for as long as I could remember. Aside from being empty, this house was well kept, and in my mind quite possibly the most beautiful in all of Ashdale. I loved that house, and my sister Emma was a real estate agent which meant that I always had the inside scoop on any potential buyers, or at least I would if there ever were any. I knew every single detail about this house, from the columns out front, to the patio out back. Every single detail of this house was etched into the etch-a-sketch of mind, and one day every single lovely detail of this breathtaking architecture would be mine...or at least that is what I planned. Until today.Today, something had changed. Something was different. Something was missing. After a quick double take it hit me. The sign. The sign listing the house on the market was gone. My heartbeat began to quicken as I mashed the gas pedal and raced two blocks down to arrive home. Thoughts rushed through mind my mind as I came up the walk. Sold? How could the house sale? Why wouldn't Emma tell me there was a potential buyer? When I finally arrived at the front door I was flustered and frantic. Emma opened the door with an extra cheerful smile and said, "Rach! You're just in time. I want you to meet the McAllister's, they're purchasing the Kennington Home on the corner."
I plastered up a welcoming smile and said, "How wonderful." As a middle aged woman with curly blonde hair approached me with a firm handshake. "Hi! My name is Mrs. McAllister. You must be Rachel! We've heard all about you from your sister." She said as she balanced a toddler on her hip and motioned toward who I gathered to be the other family members to come over. "This is my husband Robert, my son Dallas, Callington, and this..." she said motioning towards the infant in her arms, "This is our darling Camden Camilla." She smiled and handed a restless Camden over to Robert. "Welcome to the community everyone, and Rachel is going to be just thrilled that Callington will be attending Ashdale High with her." Emma said in her super happy professional voice. "If it wouldn't be an imposition, Callington is welcome to come over tomorrow morning around 7: 15 and have Rachel accompany her on her first day." Emma added kindly. Mrs. McAllister looked over at Callington and said, "Absolutely! She'd love to. Thank you so much, first days can be so difficult. We will see you in the morning!"
The next morning at around 7 am my phone started buzzing. It was Rogerson, in all of the chaos from yesterday, I had completely forgotten I was supposed to ride to school with him today. "Good morning Rogerson." I said trying to sound as pleasant as possible before breaking the news to him, but in his next one liner it was obvious he wasn't going to make breaking the news easy at all. "It will be as soon as I see you." I gushed and tried to think of what to say next. "Aw, Rogerson, that's so sweet, but I actually have to, we have to, reschedule..." The line went silent as I tried to think of something halfway comforting to say. "But I'll see you at school okay?" Yeah, that's the best I could do. "Rach--you're always so busy, it's either schoolwork or clubs, it's always something. I think we should-- I think we need some space." The air literally went from my lungs, as my mind scrambled to comprehend the words he had spoken. After a few seconds went by he added, "Are you still there?" I took in a deep breath and said, "Yeah, and okay a break sounds like the best option just for right now." I was holding back tears as the doorbell rang. "It's not permanent, just for right now, until we can sort things out." He said, but I think he knew that wasn't true, I made time for all of things I actually had a passion for, and right now he just wasn't one of them. "I really have to go Rogerson, I'll um see you around." As I hung up the phone I could hear Emma downstairs talking to Callington, and I couldn't help but think if she hadn't moved here and the Kennington House were still on the market, everything would still be okay.
