The shades slowly opened on their own due to a remotely controlled timer. The sun beams that were once trapped behind the man made darkness; burst into the room with ferocity. A loud beeping sounded through the room. The echo made the sound ten times louder. All machines were set for a certain time. An exact determination for exact purpose. Designed to wake up their owner. Yet, the bed she sleeps in was empty. It was neatly made. The blanket was tight. The pillows were neatly arranged in an order she was use to. A habit.
The shower water had ceased. A rubber sound echoed through the apartment. She stepped out of the tub. Water ran from her body onto the white tile bathroom floor. She walked across the large bathroom. Towels sat neatly folded on silver metal shelf. She grabbed one on the top, and wrapped it around her body. A few more steps to the mirror, and she just stood, and stared. She saw herself perfectly. No need to wipe the condensation off the mirror. It was built fog less.
She stared into her own blue eyes. Her light brown hair was much darker due to the water from the shower. "You are strong." She said to herself in the mirror. Her depression was over almost as soon as it began. The woman walked from the bathroom, and into her massive walk in closet. She dressed herself in a purple blouse, and black business skirt that stretched down past her knees. She was ready for work. Not just any work though. She was the boss.
New york city is massive. The towers stretched to the sky. The stars bowed down to the city lights at night.
The woman approached a massive glass building. The door was opened for her by a man in a military like uniform. "Thank You." She said with a fake smile. She approached a security check with metal detectors, and few guards armed with sidearms. She had to show no I.D. She didn't have to walk through the detectors. The guards waved politely as she passed. The turned their heads to watch as she walked away.
Large silver elevator stood in front of her. She had to press no button. A guard in the same uniform as the others had pressed the button as soon as he saw her approach. It had not come yet. "A good morning today ma'am?" Asked the guard. She looked at him and smiled. "A good morning it is. How is the wife?" Replied the woman. "She is good. She was up all night working on the new proposals for you. I do believe they are complete." Replied the guard as the elevator opened. The woman walked into the enclosed structure. "I can't wait to see them." The guard did not respond to the subject. "Your office ma'am?" He asked. "Yes please." The guard pressed the button labeled "42."
The elevator went up, and opened on the floor of her office. Multiple people stood, and waited for her. She stepped out. "Send everything to Christopher. I need a minute." She said as she passed everyone. She walked through the open office structure, and opened the glass door to her own massive office. She dropped her briefcase, and walked toward the massive window which added as her outside wall. She looked over the entire city. A sorrow filled her soul. She wanted to cry. She wanted to be home in bed, and let the pain flow out through tears.
She tried to fight the sorrow, but a single tear escaped her eyes. She didn't bother wiping it away. She didn't let any more slip away. She stayed turned towards the city. She didn't want her employees to see her crying through her glass walls.
Just as she wiped the few tears away, her door opened. She shot around, and saw a familiar face. "Oh, my. Are you serious?" said the man as he shut the door behind him, and went to close the blinds so he could have privacy. "This is why you gave me all of your work? So you could cry over that squash." said the man as he sat down in a comfortable chair on the other side of her desk. "Squash?" She asked with a giggle. She then walked to her chair, and sat down. "Yeah. He is a squash. You know. The nastiest vegetable in the world? Also, you can squash him like a bug?" Said the man.
