"Guren's taking ages" said Norito sitting back against the wall, "I can't think why he'd be taking this long" said Ssayuri. "Might have been a vampire attack on the way back" said Shigure. "First Shinya and now Guren? You know Kureto's gonna get mad at how much time we're consuming" said Mito.
"Hey, not to be that guy but what if they're not coming back" said Norito, unspoken understanding hung in the air until Sayuri broke it, "don't even suggest such a thing!" She said "they're both alive and walking back here now, I'm sure of it" she said.
It was quiet after that for a while, they were all waiting for word to move out unless Guren and Shinya showed up soon. "How many casualties so far?" Asked Shigure "twenty two and eleven wounded" said Sayuri "damn" said Mito "twenty two dead and were not even close to finishing this dumb mission" she said.
"It was cursed from the begging just think about it" said Norito, "Guren was right, this was a suicide mission" said Shigure. "We have to keep moving forward soon" said Mito. "I'm not l leaving without Guren and Shinya" said Sayuri "me neither" said Shigure "and me" said Norito "likewise" said Mito.
Not long after that an army soldier came up to them with a message that all squads were expected to move out to the next area in five minutes. "We'll wait behind, we're waiting for our captain and squad member" said Mito, "this squad is supposed to be up front in case of vampire attacks" said the soldier.
"We're waiting here until they return" said Mito, the soldier nodded "I can get you about three extra minutes" he said before walking off to join his squad that were already walking off to the next area they had been told to. Mito sighed "I hope they're okay" she said.
"Guys" said Norito pointing into the distance "is that Guren?" He said with a look of fear across his face. The other looked in the direction oh where Norito was pointing and were happy to see Guren until they saw Guren was crying.
"Wait" whispered Shigure "he's carrying Shinya, why is he carrying Shinya?" She said with her hand against her face. "M-maybe he's just unconscious" said Sayuri Norito shook his head tears already forming.
Guren got closer to them and with each step towards them he got more upset, he didn't make eye contact, he didn't talk to them. He just walked past them to some of the army base set ups where he new they had medics there even though he knew Shinya beyond medical help.
Soldiers and higher ups came rushing forward when they saw Shinya, still Guren didn't make eye contact with anyone. He felt like crying, and looked like someone who was emotionally breaking if not already broken.
Still walking forwards ignoring everyone Guren's tears gave in, he wasn't supposed to show weakness, he wasn't supposed to cry, yet Guren needed Shinya back in his life. Shinya was the only one who could make him laugh, the only one who could make him smile, and as Guren had decided a while back. Shinya was the only who made Guren feel love.
Fighting back tears as hard as he could Guren started to quicken his pace as people around him where whispering in worry about the white haired sniper, just then Guren felt something across his back. Ignoring it and insisting he was just imagining things, Guren felt it again.
'What even is that' thought Guren, there it was again. A tap of some sort? A nudge maybe? Or was it a beat? Guren stopped walking in shock. He hoped what he thought was true, he prayed what he thought was true, every part of Guren was shaking as he realized what it was he could feel against his back.
Shinya's heart beat.
