Dee's POV

I walked outside almost immediately and answered the phone, "Trent, where are you?" There was silence for a second, "Somewhere," he said hesitantly. The sound of his voice gave me chills. "Somewhere like where?" I asked. He sighed, "Somewhere...look I left, I couldn't be home when-" he began, but suddenly, there was a rustling noise in the background, followed by a bang. "W-Wait, I have to go," he quickly said. I stopped him, "What was th-" I started, but was interrupted by him hanging up.

I knew something was wrong. It had to be.

My phone vibrated, indicating that I had gotten a text. But I didn't recognize the number:

unknown: hey its trent. this is my backup, if you can't reach my other number, call this one.

d: um okay, what happened?

unknown: i'll explain later, text my real phone at midnight.

I sigh and go back up to Ki's room. I walk in and she looks at me, "Where'd you go?" she asked. I sit in her bed, "Outside, had to take a call." She nods. There's no way I could tell her about Trent. He seemed to be unsure about things. I don't want to broadcast it too much. I'm emotionally drained. I watch tv and begin to doze off.

My phone begins to vibrate repeatedly, waking me up. I slowly turn and look at my phone seeing 11 texts from Trent:

t: you can call now (12:06am)
t: hello? (12:08am)
t: dee, please call. (12:11am)
t: if youre still mad, i understand (12:13am)
t: im sorry (12:16am)
t: i want to explain things (12:17am)
t: call me asap (12:19am)
t: you have to call before its too late (12:22am)
t: please (12:29am)
t: i left bc of you (12:31am)
t: i love you (12:40am)

I stood up and walked downstairs, calling Trent immediately. He answered after three rings, "It's a little late," he whispered. Why was he whispering? I quietly walked outside to the front porch. "Trent...can you please tell me where you are?" I asked. He sighed, "I told you, I'm somewhere. I can't tell you where. I'm just letting you know I'm okay," he said. I hesitate, "I want to help you. Just tell me where you are." He becomes impatient, "Dee, you asked to know if I was okay. And I told you I'm fine. Stop pressing me. I can't tell you details," he said sternly. I don't know why he chooses to get an attitude knowing how that ends up. I paused, "Okay, well you can stay where you are. I don't care honestly. All I'm trying to do is help you but if your dumbass wants to stay there, go ahead." He sighs, "I didn't mean it like that." I sigh in return, "Well, that's how it came off, look, unless you're going to tell me where you are, you can hang up now." I wait for a second and he hangs up.
