Tapping.
That's what woke me up.
A sort of endless, rythmless tapping.
That's all I could hear. When I opened my eyes I saw black sneakers.
I sat up abruptly on my make shift mattress bed, trying to ajust from sleep to reality. Blinking until my surroundings came into focus. For the past two weeks I'd resided in a small room, with only an old tacky mattress for a bed and a few boxes to keep my stuff in. The walls where stripped bare with no windows. Not the nicest place to stay but I was in no position to complain. Although I did miss the dark buttiflies imprinted on my old room...back home. But thats the past and this was my present!
There I'd gone and done it again. Got caught up in my own messed up head, only to realise the person in 'my room' and the state that i had awoken in.
I peered up only to find Seth towering over me. His lean body rigid. Arms tightly folded across his black tee. His scrutinizing dusk grey eyes glared at me. Making me feel uncomfortable as if i was out of line in some way. Messy strands of dark black hair was sort of comb across his forehead, asif he'd gotten dressed in a hurry. LIttle strands sticking out everywhere. The look suited him. I wanted to run my fingers through it, smoothing it down but I had no right to. I wasn't his girlfriend. I wasn't his friend. From what I've gathered he doesn't like me. The looks he's given me, like I disgusted him or something. BIt arrogant if you ask me.
'uhumm' he sort of cleared his throat to get my attention.
As I snapped out of my littlel trance; I realised I was laying on some mattress on the floor in my pj's - a measley strappy tank top and cotten shorts- with bed head and hopefully no drool slobbered down my cheak. While he stood all suppirior, in tight dark jeans and a black tee that fitted nicely over his chest revealing the outlines of his perfect abs, looking down on me like I was a piece of gum stuck to his shoe.
'err... sorry about this I wasn't aware I'd be expecting company this early in the morning,' I managed to blurt out.
'yeah well what can you do hey, they say beauty is natural, by the way you should wear your hair like that more often,' I could practically hear the sarcasm dripping of every word.
Instantly my hands shot up to my hair to smooth it down. All my old insecurities rushing back.
Fuck him he clearly knows alot about beadhead, judging my that behieve on his head.
My other voice sneered. It annoyed the hell out of me but in this case it was right this time.
'Did you want anything or have you just come to torment me..'
With those perfect abs and eyes, I finished mentallly.
'I did have a reason for being here, as much as I love to watch a sleeping girl drool, Harrison was wondering if you where up for a hunt tonight. A small group of us are going to the main island to feed. He said some bullshit about you not feeding properly,'
I weighed this over in my mind, go to the main island finally satisfy this burning hunger but in the process kill some inocent human or stay and let the hunger get stronger and stronger everyday. With the latter no body dies, so guess that was the right choice?
' If it helps you won't be the only newbie there, we have some girl called Clara tagging along. If you could hurry up and decide that would be great. I have better things to be doing rather than standing here and watch that scrap of clothing, you call a top, fall of your body.'
His eyes no longer met mine, they had drifted towards the wooden floor boards like they where suddenly filled with all the secrets to the world. He was no longer standing tall with confidence, rather slouched a bit awkwardly.
I carefully reached over to one of the boxes next to my mattress, the one filled with clothes and pulled out a navy hoddie. My favourite hoodie, a present of my mum just before her... her accident. I pressed it to my face the mere sight of it bringing back memories. It smelt like her.
As I was pulling it over my head I heard the same tapping as before. That same beat; tap, tap, tap.
Once the hoodie was on and I could once agian see, Seth had moved. He was crouched down towards the side of my mattress peering at something. I crossed my legs and wrapped my arms around them with great force. Still thinking about the hoodie and it's sentimental value.
And I watched. I watched him pick up a handful of my books and annalyes them with great care. After he'd seen all the titles, he placed them all back down and stood up again. The douchbag mean guy charade was back in place. I could tell by the way he held himself.
He looked startled when he saw me. Clearly forgetting about me. Especially when he put two and two together, that I'd been watching him.
A few minutes of utter silence.
' My favouites,' his voice had changed, a sense of admiration and caring hidden within his words.
' Hows that, which ones?'
' A tale of two cities and To kill a mocking bird' he ushered his reply under his breath.
' I didn't peg you for a reader? '
He hesitated, thinking his reply over in his head.
' Well are you coming or not?'
That surprised me. The sudden change. His manner was becoming hostille again, just as I thought I was getting to know the guy. Well if that's how he was going to be i didn't have to put up with it.
' Yes I'll go.'
Before I new it he was gone. Just there one minute and gone the next. Men huh. So bloody annoying. I better make a start on things.
I started to make my bed and prepair myself to what I thought would be a very long day.
