Indi's POV
"Get up, you're 15 minutes late for your dentist appointment! Indi!" Yelled mom.
Her pale face was the last thing I wanted to see this morning. Considering that I'm still hungover from last night, I don't wanna see anyone this morning.
"It's Saturday morning, can't I just sleep in and reschedule to have the appointment in the afternoon? Tracy and I stayed up till 2 in the morning for studying and I'm so exhausted." I lied through my teeth to my mom, no one needs to know what I got myself into on Friday.
"This is the second time I've had to reschedule! No excuses, I'll see you in the car in 7 minutes" She turned her back, stomped out of my room and didn't even bother closing the door. In comes the bright light from the sun peeking through the space of my door that my mom didn't even close.
I check my phone and it's not even 9 am! I could go back to sleep or avoid the ass whooping that my mom has prepped for me so I decide to pull the cover over my bed and get up. Though I do hate light, the sun is shining decently this morning. I open my curtains to a bright sun and quiet neighborhood. I walk over to my slippers, put em on and head straight to to the washroom where I only have 5 minutes left to get in the car.
My teeth are barely yellow so I brush my teeth for a good minute and a half, wash my face with water and let my brown hair down. Hmmmm...what do I wear? I decide to throw on my black 'goals' jumper, black jeans and black Nike Roshes. I throw my beret on and head out of the door in a rush without even cleaning up my room.
I run downstairs and make it to the car before my mom even opens her mouth. "DON'T EVER pull that mess on me again! I pay good money to Dr. Tate for your checks up so put the effort in to be on time. You got that?" Yelling again, I gulp and reply "Yes." in the quietest voice I've heard myself in.
Mom starts the car and we drive out for the shortest road trip ever.
Because I'm a complete idiot, I forget to bring my phone + earphones and am forced to listen to mom's 80's playlist cd. Ugh. For those 15 minutes on the way to the dentist, I look out the window and just hope this day ends quickly.

"Okay Indi your teeth look great, just make sure to wear your retainers every night. I'm sure you want those teeth to stay straight for a long time." Dr. Tate explains. My mom looks at me dead in the eyes as the dental assistance hands me dental floss in the most disgusting way. "I'll see you in a month Indi!" He waves goodbye but stops my mom to talk to her about something as I walk out of the dental room. "Helen, you should check what Indi is drinking. When she opened her mouth, her breath reeked of whiskey. I just thought I'd let you know" He said with a look of worry and held my mom's hands in his as if someone just died.
After she's done talking to Dr. Tate, she marches to the reception at a speed that I can't keep up with. She hands me the car keys and politely tells me to wait in the car. I know this look, this isn't a genuine look, this is the I'm-telling-your-father look. I walk out the building and open the door of the car and sit there with the most nerve-racking look. Mom walks out the building 2 minutes later and v-lines to the passenger seat where I'm seated. Oh boy. Fuck me.

"Since you don't wanna admit what you've done, you can stay over at your father's house for today and tomorrow!"
We pull up to the driveway at home and my mom tells me to go back and pack for my dad's house and head back in the car immediately.
I walk in the house to see Jilly and Spencer screaming "Indi! We miss you." They are the cutest kids ever. They're my 2-year-old twin sister & brother and they are the children from my mom's second marriage. I kneel down to them as they're sitting on the living room couch and tell them "I'm going to my friend's house! I won't see you but I love you very much!" I hug them with a sad face and head upstairs before I can ever hear them start balling tears.
I pack my 3 most important clothes and head downstairs again. "Indi, make sure you call me," Josh says. He's been my step-dad for about 3 years and I still can't stand him. "Yeah sure" I rudely slur. He ignores my attitude because he wants to impress me no matter what but the sad reality is that we'll never have the same relationship as I do with my real dad. I walk out the door and the twins blow me cute kisses from the couch and I return the favor. I get in the car and mom drives off without even saying anything.
---
Time goes by and I finally arrive at my dad's house. My mom dumps me there and drives away as fast as she can. I can tell she's fed up with me. It's whatever though, it's the norm for her to always be mad. I knock on my dad's single-house door and no one comes out. I knock again and nobody answers. Being as impatient as I am, I walk down the street to Mo's house and knock on his door.
"What's up Indi? Tracy's here so we can all kick it" He excitedly says. Mo is always hype, he's always positive. Unlike me though, I'm the human form of walking depression. I walk in the house and I hear nothing but Tracy yelling on the phone as usual. Mo's house is tiny, there's only 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, living room and barely a back yard. Considering that only him, his sister and her baby live there, it makes sense . It was my type though, small and intimate.
"I'll call you back. When I do, you better transfer the money!" Tracy snaps her flip phone with an angry face and turns to me. "Hey Indi! What did you think of last night?" With the cheekiest face ever, Tracy gives me the look that she's gonna hype the situation up!
"Normal as always. You know parties aren't my thing, I just like chilling" Stop lying, you know you only like drinking! "Anyways Mo do you mind if I crash at your house tonight? My dad isn't home and I'm exhausted right now."
"Knock yourself out," he says.
From the kitchen counter, I walk down the hallway, turn left and head straight to his sister's room that she never occupies. I take off my jeans, shoes, beret and jump onto the bed. Being comfortable and warm, I snuggle up and go for a good nap.
