Krissy
by Miranda Schramm
There once was a girl who was always shy and she never said anything. Her name was Krissy. She always seemed sad and depressed. She had orange, brown hair, always wore pigtails, and had hazel eyes that shined like a sunrise on a summer’s day. One day, something happened that would change someone's life forever.
It was another day at school and she was walking in a hall when a boy ran into her. He had short blonde hair and looked like an angel. His name was Chris. He apologized and helped her pick up all of her homework. He looked into her eyes and just stood there for a moment as if he were hypnotized. Then he told her that she had the most beautiful eyes he had ever seen and for once she said something, “Thank You.” For once in her life, she felt loved and her heart melted. She sat down in the library at lunch and Chris came up to her and sat next to her. They talked for a while and eventually, Chris asked for Krissy’s phone number. She gave it to him, he gave her a hug and he left.
The next day, Krissy was not at school, which was odd since she never missed a day of school since she was in first grade. Chris was looking for her everywhere and even tried calling her. She didn’t pick up. He figured that she was just really sick, so he didn’t worry.
Two days went by and Krissy still wasn’t at school. Chris was really starting to get worried now, so he tried calling her again. She didn’t pick up. He went to the front office to ask where Krissy had gone. They told him that she died on Monday after school. They said that all they found for evidence was a drawing of Chris in her hand and a pencil in her other hand. They thought she wasn’t paying attention while walking and she tripped on the concrete. She had broken her neck and she died instantly. The office gave him a picture of her to help him remember her.
When Chris got home that evening, he didn’t talk to his parents about how school went or pet his dogs. He went upstairs to his room and hung the letter that he had written to Krissy on his wall. He put the picture of Krissy he had gotten from the office above his bed. He ran downstairs to his parents and told them what had happened. They ignored his cries and told him to go do his homework. He went back upstairs to his room and instead of doing his homework, he went to bed.
That night after he had fallen asleep, he heard a tapping on his door. He got up and looked who it was. There was no one there so he went back to sleep. Right before he fell asleep, he heard a voice. It was Krissy’s voice. She was standing at the foot of his bed and she told him not to be sad. She comforted him and waited for him to go back to sleep until she left.
The next day at school, Chris went to all of his classes knowing he hadn’t done his homework, but he knew his teachers would understand. He went to his science class and told his teacher what had happened, he didn’t listen. He went to his math class and told the teacher what happened, she didn’t listen. The same thing happened all day and he was done. He couldn’t understand why they didn’t care. He went to all of Krissy’s teachers and asked them why no one will listen. They didn’t know who Krissy was.
He ran home as fast as possible and ran to his room. He waited until his parents were asleep until he ran to the police station and talked to them. They searched Krissy’s name in the city’s citizens and there was no such person as Krissy. There was also no sign of any deaths the night before. He went back home and went to his room. He searched for the picture and the letter and couldn’t find the picture.
After a few days, he couldn’t sleep. He went to school and went back to the library and sat at the table they were sitting at the week before. There was a note on the table from Krissy saying that she loved him. He took the note and brought it home and put it with the other things that he had for Krissy. He went to bed and found the picture of Krissy lying on his pillow. He turned it over and it had another note on the back. It said “Krissy will watch over you until death”. He thought about that and he didn’t want her to look out for him because he thought he was the reason she died.
The next morning, Chris found the picture she drew of him on his window. He brought the picture of Krissy to school and showed it to all of her teachers. When he asked them if they knew her they all said she looked familiar, but he wouldn’t know her. She died a long time ago when a young boy named Chris died by tripping and breaking his neck. She died a few days after of a broken heart.
Chris thought about this and he thought it was odd that everything has happened twice except for him dying. He went out to where she died and sat by a well. He could still see where she had lain. There was a blood stain on the concrete where she had hit her head. Then he thought about the story and the boy died. Maybe the boy was him in another life, and she died of a broken heart.
He went back to school and nobody talked to him. He asked questions and nobody answered. Eventually, he went to his best friend and he told Chris to go away. Chris ran home and he fell onto his bed. It was silence. His parents came upstairs and they found him lying across his bed not moving. He was cold as ice and pale as a clam. They took his pulse and he didn’t have one. They called the police and they investigated the room. They eventually came out of the room with the pictures and the letter.
He had died of a broken heart. The parents walked into the room and sat down. Then they saw Krissy and Chris standing in front of them and they told them it was okay. Later that evening, two puppies were found in their kitchen downstairs with collars that had the names Krissy and Chris on them. They lived in Chris’s room forever.
