Things hadn't always been this way. I wasn't always cast aside, from what I remember anyways. What I do remember is my parents, how calm and collected they always had been. They had never screamed or hurt me. Mentally or physically. But I never felt connected to them like other kids felt with their parents.
But being 4 years old, you wouldn't think I would have been thrown out.
The life I had liven wouldn't be the same anymore. Even my young mind had registered that.
I was sitting by myself in a clearing. I remember how I had heard slight whispers, branches breaking and quiet pants. Whoever it was, wasn't exactly attempting to make themselves quiet. I believed they had wanted me to hear it, so I wouldn't have been spooked. I remember not being scared, more content than I had been in my entire life. Deep down, my young mind had believed I was safe, and I had been right.
A man, with large muscles and a beard, had walked out first. Followed by two other men, who weren't as big, and two women. What followed next would terrify even the strongest of men.
5 large dragons followed behind them. Riders. My parents were the leaders of the last Weyr of riders. I could easily tell the large man was the leader.
"Are you okay, little one? Why are you all the way out here alone?" One of the women had whispered. Her hair blonde, and her eyes the shade of blue that's so bright it's shocking.
I had smiled and told her I was completely fine. They had walked closer, their dragons following behind. While they walked closer, I heard something like little wing beats, and snorts. My heart had started to race and I suddenly felt breathless. Like I had been running, then I felt whole. My bright green eyes caught sight of small purple ones, looking out behind the largest dragon. Along with purple eyes, came a small black head, with horns protruding from the back of its head. It's face screamed innocent to me.
"My human." I had heard. But it seemed as if I was the only one who had heard it. But I felt a small sense in the back of my mind, like a... rubber band snapping in place. I felt connected and whole. I felt a sense of belonging. Like I was part of a family.
I remember hearing voices and something else I couldn't quite place. It would take me many many years to realize that that emotion was love.
After that snap, multiple voices were heard in my head. But one stood out the most.
"You're my rider." It was childlike, innocent. But it sounded gravely and unused. A small voice in the back of my head realized the voice that belonged to was the small dragon.
He had walked around the thick, long, trunk like legs, that were most likely his fathers & bounded to me. He sniffed my face curiously before he purred and wrapped himself around me. I had giggled and we played until nightfall.
Until finally, we had fallen asleep. Little did I know at that age, that these people would become my family and would show me everything about myself I was never taught.*******
First chapter is short but I haven't posted in a while & I got the idea for a dragon story after watching Pete's Dragon lmao.
