"Hawking Night?" Catherine screeched. She put down her papers, her gaze being one of distrust, "Hawking Night. As in... Captain of the Knights in Shining Armor, the special ops force? The guy who is on 1st place for the top bachelor with an unbeatable score of 97 damsels in distress saved?"

"Yes. You are to work with him during his stay here." The Queen smirked. She knew very well Catherine hated partners, let alone snobbish Prince Charmings.

Catherine's eyes flickered back and forth as she made some quick deductions. Then she narrowed her eyes, "Why am I teaming up with him?"

"I may have said he'd be working with Ms. Ever After but in secret so that ladies stayed off him."

"So you want me to solve the cases and keep love-struck doves off of him?" Catherine presumed.

"That is why I hired you. But you'll be surprised how much to two are alike."

"Doubt it." She said coldly, returning to her scavenging.

The Evil Queen chuckled, "I don't. Especially since both of you ae very stubborn."

Catherine looked up at the Queen, "With all due your majesty, you hired me to keep women off him. If he was stubborn he'd have more self-respect and more will of who to sleep around with!"

"It's not like I raised my nephew! It was my annoying sister, bless her soft heart." The Queen offer a silent quick prayer.

"Wait a minute. Is he the son of your sister who got burned in the oven when she was babysitting Hansel and Gretel over at her house?"

"That's her." The Queen looked solemn. Hansel and Gretel was the first story messed up and the first case of this horrid phenomenon. It happened a year and a half ago, but everyone was still nervous about their own stories and it wasn't helping that other stories were changing as well.

"So he will be extra irrational." Catherine grabbed a folder from the shelves and shoved a bunch of papers into it.

"I don't know about that."

"When is he coming?" scowled Catherine.

The Queen sighed as she watched Catherine hurriedly pack a dagger into the ribbon around her waist and some papers into a bag. "Tomorrow evening." Catherine nodded, slinging the bag over her shoulder.

"Well. I should go get prepared."

"Are you still on the case?"

Catherine's gaze softened as she walked up to the Queen. "Your Majesty. Everyone's tales are being effected. Your sister was killed in that oven and my friend was hurt. I will do everything in my power to protect your nephew and I will try my best to work with him. I promise." She put a comforting hand onto the Mayor's shoulder and then left her that room. She made her way through the unfinished first floor of her unfinished and nonexistent castle then went through the secret passage before leaving the huge castle and ending up on the happy little street.

Catherine took a deep breath and plastered a smile upon her features. She started through town. After about ten minutes, she ended up in the front of the Town's animal shop. It sold animals/animal supplies, did day care, and was even a vet office.

The soft jiggle of a bell signaled her arrival as she stepped inside the busy shop. Human-sized fairies flittered to and fro from customer to customer like leap frogs.
