Come, child,
And let me tell you a story;
A story about a beautiful young woman who fell in love with the heart of the sea.
She was always told never to venture out upon the icy, glittering surface of the water,
She was told that it would capture her and never let her go,
That the waves would pull her under the surface and her soul would be stuck there for eternity.
But she was a stubborn girl,
And would not listen to the warnings.
She had long dark hair,
As shiny as a diamond,
And eyes the color of the ocean she was forbidden to go to.
She had a curious heart,
And that curiosity would soon betray her.
The dark haired woman stood upon the sand leading to the water,
And she let tiny waves splash onto her feet.
It felt so cold,
But so welcoming.
It was almost as if the very sea was calling her,
Just beckoning her to go deeper.
The woman never stayed away from something she wanted,
And never knew what was best for her.
She stared out into the far distance,
And saw a light flare up from the water.
A man appeared in that light, and rode the waves to stand in front of her.
She was in awe of this man;
For he was everything she had ever wanted.
He was stunning,
With jet black hair and silver eyes,
And he whispered something in her ear.
He said, "I've been waiting for you. I've waited for this moment for so long, and you're finally here."
The woman was entranced by his words,
As he promised her that all of her dreams would come true,
That she would never have to worry about being taken advantage of and used;
That she would always be safe with him.
He told her that he loved her,
And she fell for his deception.
She was so desperate for someone to love her that she didn't think about the warnings she'd been told,
To stay away from what lurked deep in the ocean.
The man held out his hand to her,
And she took it.
The woman was blinded by him;
He had looked at her once,
And her mind became taken over,
She was put under a spell,
But you see,
The only way the spell would work,
Is if the woman readily accepted his touch;
If she trusted him.
So the man smiled and pulled her forward,
Until she was up to her waist in the cold water.
The last part would go by quick;
The man would have to kiss her to be able to claim her.
The woman couldn't think straight; And all those warnings she'd been told left her mind like they were never there.
The deceiving man placed his lips over hers,
And she kissed him back.
The man wrapped his arms around her waist firmly, so tightly,
And dragged her under the surface.
The woman realized she had been deceived,
And struggled in the man's grip.
She thrashed in the water and opened her mouth to scream,
And the Man of the Ocean laughed at her.
The woman had let herself be taken over,
Hadn't listened to what she had been told,
And followed that man;
Allowed her heart to be claimed by him.
It was said that the woman was never seen again,
And that her soul rested in the deepest part of the ocean,
Where she would be trapped for eternity with the Man of the Ocean.
This shows that sometimes,
What you want most,
Is the very thing you cannot have,
And that the heart is a wild place that can easily be deceived by sweet, false words.
Don't let that heart be yours.
