Namid's POV

I bound through the forest, my legs trembling slightly from the pure energy running through my blood. I couldn't help myself from stop and clawing at a tree happily. I had been waiting so long to let out my wolf after nine months of steady training. I hear a howl, a mating wolf howl. I could tell from the low octave that it was a male wolf and he was lonely. I started to bound off towards this male but I hear the whistle and turn to a stop. Should I start running away to the male or should I go back to them so then I don't have to train again?

I make my decision and run off toward the whistle. I fell a slight pull in my chest as I run towards the trainers, farther away from the howl. I'll have to try and find that wolf somewhere.. My name is Namid Grey. I am the daughter of the leader of a pack known as The  Clan, the listener clan. I'm 18 going on 19 in a couple of weeks, my mate is out there somewhere still but I don't know where or who yet but I have to wait till I'm of age. I have waist length, curly blonde hair with space grey eyes which I get from my mother. My father is aboriginal and my mother was Caucasian. My mother always said that I have a gift. I believed her for the longest time, until the accident.

I sit at my computer desk and look at my apple laptop, debating if I should skype with my best friend Ahiga. I sigh and my phone vibrates, causing a small but annoying sound against my desk. I pick it up and see that Ahiga has just texted me to tell me about my birthday party. It was just gonna be me, him and our clan going but he wanted some kids from our school to come as well. It is a highly dangerous idea, even more dangerous then us going to the high school to learn.

'I'm coming over' he says, I smile and text back.

'Okay, use the front door this time..' I laugh silently to myself, back when we had first hit the age of 16 Ahiga wasn't supposed to come over because of clan reasons. So, one time he came over and climbed through my window while in the process of tearing up his clothes in the dense bush. His parents thought we had gotten into a fight when he got home and they seen his clothes.

'Yeah yeah, I'll be there in 5' he says, I read the message and put my phone down. I get up and look at myself in the mirror. My grey eyes with green around the rims and blue around the pupils, I absolutely hated my eyes because of the attention they got. My scars too, I have a deep scar on my right cheek bone from a training accident that stretches from under my right eye, straight down on my cheek then it curves back up towards my nose and another that stretches across the bottom of my rib cage. The most I hate about myself is the fact I look like my mother, tears well up in my eyes as I think of the night she was found... I push the thoughts out of my head and pull my hair back into a thick french braid. The women of my clan always wore their hair in braids or ponytails no matter the occasion, weather or situation.

"Wow" comes a small deep voice behind me, warm breath caressing my neck "You need a hair cut.." Ahiga grins from behind my shoulder and hugs me.

"At least I don't need a breath mint" I tease, wrinkling my nose a little and giggling.

"Hey, I try my hardest to be perfect for you!" He fake pouts and grins, Ahiga's name meant He Who Fights but Ahiga was less violent then most people. He only got really violent when I was made fun of or if he was mad "So, Star Dancer, what are we gonna do today?" He asks, I bristle at him calling me Star Dancer, the meaning of my name, and shrug.

"We could go hunting I suppose.." I say, ducking quickly out of Ahiga's deathly bear hug and going to my room. I grab my bow and quiver, unlike most people in my tribe I use a compound bow instead of a re-curve to hunt. I find the compound's hurt less when kissed and the sights on them are perfect for my keen eyes.

"Well, I guess we're going hunting then" He smirks and leans on the door frame, I catch a hint of his cologne and I feel my heart stop, the scent firing something up in my brain.

"Yep.." I mange to get out, I take a deep breath and inhale the scent. I shake my head slightly to get it out of my head and I go downstairs, slinging my quiver across my shoulders. Unlike most of the women in my clan I'm tall, my shoulders are broad and I'm strong. We walk to Ahiga's house and he quickly jogs into the house to grab his bow, quiver and knife. He jogs back outside and we race to the paths, I beat him by a long shot and climb into a tree. I sit on a branch as I wait for him to catch up. He grins when he gets at the tree and we travel deeper into the forest, I draw an arrow and slow down to a silent creep as I see a doe grazing, I steady my aim and wait. I hear the sudden rush of an arrow and an agonizing scream. I feel a slight pain in my right shoulder as I quickly spin around, un-notch my arrow and look at Ahiga. His hand around a shaft of an arrow, his face pale and his eyes wide "Ahiga, look at me.. We are going back to the camp now.. Okay?" I say calmly, acting as if nothing is wrong so he won't freak out.

"I think I'm gonna-" he takes a step forward and stumbles. I catch him in my arms and I hold him up by the shoulders. I drag him back to the camp as fast as I possibly can, the muscles in my legs screaming in pain as I run but I don't care, I need to save him. I get there and everything goes into a blur. The next four hours I wait in the hospital to see Ahiga.

All I can do is just sit there, I'm paralyzed. To see him in so much pain immobilizes me, breaking me into a million pieces while I wait.
