The Helicopter landed slowly, They pulled me from my post in Afghanistan. I felt pretty good looking at the people before me. Two strong looking men and a boy who looked a bit short, I slowly walked up tracing my eyes over them all I summed up I had a bang up squad of soldiers. Regardless of who we were and who we loved we'd be the best task force of the US Military. All we needed now was training for Corey on a Helicopter. Jackson and Robert greeted me with firm handshakes and Corey was very timid, Looking at his ranks I saw why. He was a newbie from basic where as all of us were battle hardened and trained.
The Colonel of our Division greeted us in the briefing room, A firm handshake and a coffee mug in my hand filled with sludge like muck coffee was all of our greetings. Jackson and Robert gladly drank theirs and Corey drank his but in a hesitant matter. I just sat mine on the table and the Colonel opened the briefing, Pointing with a long ruler. "This is New York, It's been in riots for three days by an unknown organization, You squad leader will be the directing from a Humvee. Corey will be your eye in the sky, piloting a sniper drone, Not loaded for obvious reasons. Robert and Jackson will be moving up with your Column of Humvee's. The President and Pentagon will be watching. This Division was made to show LGBT+ are capable like the others. I want no mistakes."
After that we all made our ways to the Helicopter and Corey tugged at my sleeve, "What if we fuck up?" he asked me timidly, "We won't." I said coldly looking at the Helicopter and smiled, "We're Rainbows in the dark." Boarding the chopper, I looked at my squad of misfits and felt a sense of pride. Both of myself and the movement we were helping.
As the helicopter flew toward the city from the ship, I looked at each of my squad and chimed on my radio. "So, Why'd you all get in the squad? Data wasn't sent to me." Corey, spoke up 'I'm a transboy.' I nodded, 'I'm transfemale.'. The man in Marine camoflauge smiled, 'Well I'm bisexual. and I'm married to Petty Officer Second Jackson here.' Jackson simply said 'I'm gay.'. I chuckled, 'Well I can see why we're the ones being sent in now.'
