It was the morning, I awoke feeling upset, head pounding, weird tingling panicking sensation. That...and the fact I awoke naked next to a boy.
I jumped out of my skin and out of the bed, hitting the floor with a loud thump. The boy stirred in his sleep but his eyes never opened, as I found my clothes in a heap on the floor. I turned quickly away from the unknown boy not even staying long enough to figure out who it was.
My head was pounding and inside I was freaking out. Walking around a bunch of bodies, I dug out my phone with shaky hands and speed dialed the one person I could trust.
On the other end of the line, there was a loud groan and then the ringing of the same familiar voice. "Hello... Who is this?" She asked.
"Mabel I NEED you to come get me please!" I said in a desperate whisper, balancing the phone between my shoulder blade and my head. I tugged on my pants listening to the long silence on the phone.
"Why are you calling me at 5 in the morning?" Mabel moaned, as I listened to the sound of her stirring. I could tell she was getting out of her bed and I could picture her moving with an annoyed scowl on her face.
I stayed silent for a moment as I rushed outside still struggling to put on the last bit of my clothes. My head spinning, I had completely forgotten about searching for my jacket and the sudden rush of wind sent cold chills down my body. My teeth chattered violently and my body shook uncontrollably, trying to warm itself.
"Because I need to get as far away from here as possible!" I answered finally hearing silence once again on the other end of the line.
Looking around I tried to find the street sign and noticed that the house I had exited was wrecked. Cups and trash littered the ground, and people were even unconscious in bushes. The pungent smell of alcohol filled my nostrils and instantly I knew last night was a party.
And for some unknown reason I decided to participate in the crazy event.
"I will be there soon." Mabel said hanging up on me before I could read the address. I sat on the curb and closed my eyes, trying to recall last nights events but came up empty. Many minutes passed by and my eyebrows knitted together in deep thought.
This was frustrating, not knowing what events took place. I silently prayed that nothing happened with that guy and that I still had my....
"Purity!!" Opening my eyes I saw Mabel in her black Ford Tartus, motioning for me to come closer. Not hesitating for a moment, I climbed in the passenger seat and shut the door behind me. Letting out a breath I hadn't realized I was holding I sat back in my chair, watching as Mabel turned corners smoothly and pulled into my driveway. Shutting off the car we sat in silence, minutes passed until Mabel finally opened up her mouth.
"Our first day as seniors is coming up soon Purity. You cant' be going to parties and getting drunk." I opened my mouth to protest but she quickly began to talk again.
"I know that you are just trying to make friends and all. But its fine to go unnoticed. I also know you didnt mean to drink but you have to realize that people put things in the drinks when you go to a standard high school party. I don't understand why you just recently started to care what other people think about you. "
I shut my mouth and stayed silent. Nobody noticed me and I thought going to a real high school party would change that.
"I never should have let you go to your first party alone." I heard Mabel mutter under her breath.
"It's not your fault Mabel. I shouldn't have begun to care what other people thought of me."
Laying a hand on her shoulder, I opened the car door and stepped into the night air. The winds gentle waves pushed my midnight black hair back and I stood there for several moments taking in deep breaths.
"Don't forget. Tomorrow is the first day of school. And just act like nothing happened that way Josh doesn't find out." Mabel called out after me with a sad knowing smile.
I nodded not in the mood to talk anymore. Turning around I began to walk to my front door.
"Purity!! We'll come get you in the morning. Ok hun?" she looked at me, her expression motherly.
"Ok" I smiled at her. "Thanks Mabel." With that I walked into my house, looking around my living room I noticed the emptiness, the way only the dark filled the room.
I walked towards the bathroom, for a hot, relaxing shower. As the water hit my skin, what I could remember of tonight replayed in my head.... Who was the boy? And more importantly, why was I in bed with him?
