The lights went out, the party started.
And now, Zach has taken me to the garden at the back of their 3-storey house.
I'm speechless.
Is this the right time to let the ground swallow me now?
I'm not looking at him nor what's he's doing. I swear, I want to disappear now and then.
Like, I wasn't just hearing my heartbeat. The music's too loud from here and... the silent between us is deafening!
"Umm...sorry." I started.
"Hmm? Bakit? Wala pa nga akong may nasabi, nagso-sorry ka na."
I lift my head to see him but I was more surprised when I saw him lighting the candle in his 3-layer strawberry cake.
"Come here." He said with a smile on his lips.
Lumapit naman ako at tiningnan sya.
The silence came back.
Srlsly? Mabuti pa ang silence bumabalik-
Oh. Shut up.
"Kinalimutan mo ang birthday ko, ano?"
I suddenly look at him with my puppy eyes.
I wish he can read me saying 'sorry'.
But he just shrug it off.
"It's okay..."
"Pero di ko naman kinalimutan. Nakalimutan lang. Magkaiba yun."
I pouted.
Totoo naman ah.
"Ano bang gusto mong iregalo ko?"
My question hit me big time.
Gaga ka Cass.
Panu kung ano ang gusto niya? Ano...
shh! Wag!
I was about to take it back but his face lits up with a grin.
DIYOSKOPO. Ano bang nasabi ko?!
"I'm so glad you asked. 'Di ko na patatagalin pa at baka matunaw ang kandila..."
Right. There's no table or seats here so it's obviously he's holding his cake with flaming candles on.
"It's still 11:53 pm and yeah, it's still my birthday. So, before I blow my candles, I will wish something that will be granted by you as your gift..."
"Teka! Sabi ko regalo, hindi wish. Magkaiba yun!"
He chuckled.
"It's still the same. At ikaw na yung nagsuggest eh. So, why not?"
"Daya mo naman! Magkaiba nga yun!"
"May magagawa ka pa ba? It's 11:59 and you're going to grant my wish..."
He hold the cake with his one hand and hold my hand on the other.
"Be my Girlfriend Cass." His eyes are torturing me!
His hazel eyes are pulling me in.
What more sweeter than that?
I'm suffocating here? hello? My heart's gone crazy!
Eto na 'to eh. Oh, Love!--
thinking 'bout that, Angelo.
Flashback.
"I saw Zach a while ago, Cass." He's printly sitting in the couch.
"Ows. Bakit Angelo? Problema mo?"
I never had a chance to look at him. I'm busy playing games in Kath's cellphone.
"You know, He loves you..." I love you too.
Haha kidding.
"So?"
"Once in your life, di mo sya naging crush? C'mon Cass, I think you should give it a try."
He smiled at me.
"Angelo, kung alam mo lang..."
I gave up on you and realized Zach's been the missing piece in my life all along!
End.
"Yes Zach." I smiled at his lovely face.
Guys shouldn't have one but yes, he has.
And I love it.
I move my hand on his cake and put it between us.
"Blow." I mouthed.
He bend his head down and blow it up.
"Happy Birthday Zach. I'm sorry if your wish is the least I can give you..."
Nahiya tuloy ako. Pwe.
"It's more than what I wished."
He cupped my face and doesn't even break the contact between us.
I know he's going to kiss the hell out of me. -- for God's sake, I am 18!
And before he closes the gap between us,
My phone rang.
And I have nothing to do but to answer it.
"Cass?- Hi. I'm sorry to call you at midnight but-"
"Get to the point Cire. Anong kailangan mo?" I frigidly said.
"Can you send me the pictures of our project in Science? Through messenger! By the way, did I interrupt...something?"
YES. YOU JUST DID BIG TIME.
"I deleted them all." I lied.
"Ha? Lianna just said-"
"BYE."
I ended the call.
I hate intruders.
I look back at Zach and just found him at the seat near the dancefloor. I guess I just ripped the special unforgettable moment between us.
Ano pa nga ba?
Nilapitan ko sya. He look...loss. Dejected.
"Zach..."
"I'll drive you home."
He stood up and walked first.
I guess first times aren't that lucky for us.
