Bullet For A Gravestone

A rifle's your only friend

And it's loaded with you at the ready

To fight to the end

So you better keep your aim steady

You told your family you'd come home

You told them you wouldn't die

But how could you know

How fast the bullets fly

You had to go, and they begged you to stay

Now in an unmarked grave you lay

And I'm hope for your sake they know

You tried to come home but a bullet blocked your way

Like salt in a wound

You felt the pain of being hated

Untimely funeral in the month of June

War was always so over rated

They sat around a cross

Your name it held in gold

Thinking of all the years they'd lost

They never had you to hold

You had to go, and they begged you to stay

Now in an unmarked grave you lay

And I'm hope for your sake they know

You tried to come home but a bullet blocked your way

Your picture in a memorial for service

Is it true that you deserve this?

What did you do to earn this?

Tell me from the grave was it worth it?

You're family left behind for glory and your body in the ice

And a simple family passed story for another day

About how freedom has it's price

Did the sun feel warm as your vision turned to gray

You had to go, and they begged you to stay

Now in an unmarked grave you lay

And I'm hope for your sake they know

You tried to come home but a bullet blocked your way
