"Markus."The fear that hid itself inside my body suddenly flared up at the name. It was him. Vaguely, I remembered this man. I had met him just one other time before becoming hostage. Back when my existence was still a secret from everyone this man had discovered me. Apparently, as my bastard mother said herself, he was coming to confess his sins to the head sister (my mother) but was caught snooping around. Which then led to my discovery. I was ecstatic to see the unexpected visitor because I'd never come in contact with anyone but my awful parents. However this led to my father beating me for going against their rules of never talking to anyone.
"Yes, just like that fateful day we meet again my beloved Sydney."

It was the nonexistent boys birthday today, he was now 8 and his life was getting harder to cover up. As the boy grew the beatings became harsher and the judgement unbearable. But one man was here to alleviate the pain. Since the beautiful young lad was born the man watched him. The boy didn't know this though, no one did. Such a tremendous secret to keep yet the day the boy was born the secret had been discovered. A sin like this would not be looked over by the church if they were to find out so the man decided to watch over the boy till the time was right and he'd come to save him. There was bound to be pain in the process but when the day was finally right the boy would be free and he'd take him under his wing. This was what the man vowed to himself.
Upon arrival to the church the man made haste to speak with the head sister after service. There wasn't a single moment to spare. As he headed down to the dorms many of the sisters occupied he instantly perked up when he saw no one was around but the bastard mother. He knocked sharply on her door and spoke of the sins he needed to confess and instantly she went off to find her secret husband, also known as the pastor, to help as well. Such a stupid woman to leave her child unguarded. As his plan worked perfectly he crept to the hidden door in the back of the closet of her room and walked down the stairs that led to a secret basement. Inside he was blessed to find the beautiful boy he'd watched grow up in this small room.
The boy sat on his bed crying a bit and sniffled, wiping his cheeks. The man felt sympathy for him and wanted to hold the boy in his arms to soothe him. Cautiously, the man walked up to the boy and knelt before him. Soft brown eyes looked down at him as a gasp came from the boys lips. This brought a smile onto the mans face and he reached out to pat his head. What happened next surprised him because he expected the child to be scared. The boy had leaned into his touch and looked at him as if he was his entire world. The mans heart skipped a beat but he pulled away quickly. The time wasn't right yet, not until he had come of age. Such a long wait would silently kill the man on the inside but he'd be able to watch over the boy till then. Now, since it was his birthday the man had prepared a special gift.
"Sydney, I know you don't know who I am but I have a gift for you. You have to promise to keep it a secret though and not let anyone know you have it, okay? Can you promise me that?"
The boy nodded frantically and grinned like an idiot. No one but this man showed compassion to him, not even on his birthday. A small object was placed in his hands and he had to cover his mouth before the child screamed out in glee. While watching him for so long he had learned many things about him, one of those things being the fact he loved cats. Cats showed up many times in his story books and the boy loved those books the most. Inside his hands he had given him a cat figurine that was all black and had bright yellow eyes. This gift caused tears to come out of his eyes and he tackled the unknown man in a hug. He only smiled and hugged back before telling him one last thing.
"Remember Sydney, my name is Markus and I will come back for you in the future. Don't be alarmed when I take you back in my arms because I will show you the life you always deserved and love and cherish you for the rest of your life. I promise." And with that promise he stood and left. Leaving the boy till his next birthday when he turned 21.

"I thought... I-I thought you forgot about me. You came and left before I knew it. I don't even have your gift anymore... how.. h-how could you leave me like that?" The tears I held back finally came out and my whole body was shaking. This man, this savior from my childhood had finally come back. I didn't know whether to be grateful or upset. He left me for so long but he kept his promise. How was I supposed to feel about that?
"I know Sydney, I'm truly sorry about leaving you but I had no choice. It was the only way I could save you from them." The way he said it caught my attention and I tilted my head as I looked at him questioningly.
"What do you mean it was the only way? How did you know they'd kick me out when I turned 18?" He seemed to tense but relaxed quickly.
"Sydney there's something I need to tell you and I need you to understand I only had good intentions for you the entire time."
What was he talking about?
