Jisoo's POV

The forest was dark and foreboding, but there was peace in its sullen ambiance. I stride along the forest, the sound of leaves crunching underneath my feet. The moonlight shone down, a diffuse glow, lighting the forest from pitch black to charcoal grey. The frigid air penetrated against my skin, chilling my blood, sinking into the marrow of my bones like wet concrete.

I rubbed my arms, wanting warmth as I shivered in the cold night air. I cursed under my breath for wearing such thin long sleeves, but carried on striding through the slender trees nonetheless.

Beyond were a grassy field and a flat lake, which was glimmering under the moonlight. This, this was a place for me to clear unnecessary thoughts that clouded my head. I stared up at the sky and studied the silver glow of the moon.

There I was, standing in the middle of the woods in front of a calm lake at midnight to escape my life at home, not wanting to do anything but cry. The tears burst forth like water from a dam, spilling down my face. I feel the muscles of my chin tremble like a small child.

Crying felt good, especially when they were tears that I didn't want to push away. They were temporary cleaners to wash away the pain. I never cried, it just wasn't me.

But that night, under the protection of millions of stars and the beautiful moon, I felt like I could let the floodgates open with a single snap of my fingers. I stared up at the sky and continued to let my pain run away for the moment.

But the sudden rustling of bushes behind me alarmed me in the midst of crying. My eyes darted everywhere on alert. Usually when I come to this place, I was always alone, there was nobody else, I was at least sure.

Still, I didn't dare move, I didn't dare breathe, I'm frozen to the spot. I can feel my heart pounding in my chest.

The hairs on my arms stand to attention, as a militia of chills march down my spine. Is there something there or is it just my imagination? I edged backwards as the rustling gets louder and louder, surely if something is there, it can hear this cacophonous thrumming rhythm.

Then, the rustling came to an end, bringing in the atmosphere of a deafening silence. Maybe it was just a squirrel or a chipmunk roaming around the area. There are plenty of them here.

I swing around only to find a small face looking back at me with a frowned expression. I screamed in pure astonishment and fell to the ground on my bottom ungracefully, staring at the figure in front of me, my eyes gleaming wide.

The 'figure' was a girl who stood tall in front of me, clad in ripped jeans and black t-shirt accompanied with a blue jean jacket. She had the hood on her head, making her look somewhat intimidating.

She outstretched a hand out to me and I stared at it, feeling hesitant. Who the hell would hang out in this dark forest at midnight besides me?

"C'mon, I don't bite."

I felt weird and unsure when she said those words. Slowly, I accepted her hand which was abnormally cold and she surprisingly pulled me up easily to my feet without me having to pull myself up. Moreover, she didn't even flinch in her spot when she did so.

She's strong; that's my first impression of the mysterious girl in front of me. She removed the hood from her head, giving me a better look at her small, round face and I couldn't help but stare. She had plump cheeks and large beautiful blue eyes.

Not the ordinary kind of blue, her eyes were blue like the sea, the colour of her eyes I've never seen before. They were so mesmerizing that it was as if they looked deep into my soul.
