Zachary heard the squeals and whirrs of the Snatchers before all the others did. He knew it was coming soon for them to snatch them away into the darkness. The metal made groans and whirrs, rusty and dirty. He kept working, panting and wiping his brow from his sweat every few minutes. Sometimes watching his friends, wondering what they were doing here and how they got here. It felt like a black hole, sucking them all in. None of them knew anything about their past lives. They lived in the present, thought about the present, worked in the present. It was safer that way. The more curious you were, the greater the danger.
