M I L I A N I AI rolled over groggily, groaning at the bright light shining in my eyes. F*ck off, sun. I sigh, realising that the sun is only in my eyes because I forgot to shut the curtains for my window. As I get up and shut my curtains, I hear a loud bang from the kitchen. I quickly run out my room, being cautious, to whether there is a burglar in the house or not.
I walk into the kitchen, letting out a sigh mixed of relief and disappointment. No, I'm not disappointed that there was no burglar, but the fact that my mum is passed out on the kitchen floor, a broken beer bottle next to her.
Quickly I clean up the bottle, putting the glass in the small bin in the corner of the room. After that, I carefully carry- well, drag my mum to the couch, placing a blanket over her.
I wipe my forehead, a small amount of sweat gathering on the back of my hand. My nose scrunches, and I walk to my room, brushing my teeth and having a short shower. I get out, my foot nearly slipping on the tiled floor.
I let out a small squeal of surprise, my eyes widening as my hand grabs ahold of the shower curtain. My arse being so close to the cold ground, I shut my eyes carefully standing up, gaining my balance, again.
"I can't believe I nearly fell.." I mutter to myself, drying my body. My hand wipes the steam from the middle of the mirror, shaking my head a little, flicking my dark brown bangs from my eyes.
I laugh a little, drawing a small smiley face on the foggy glass. My finger continues to glide along the smooth surface, soon creating a sentence.
'Always stay happy, even if everything is sad' it said. I smile feebly at my small words of encouragement towards myself.
I hum the song, Backseat Serenade by All Time Low as I danced around my room, looking for clothes to wear. I slipped on my light blue skinny jeans, my black beat-up Converse after. I decide to wear a loose grey shirt, my favourite sweater over the top. I check the time on my old phone, my eyes widening at the numbers.
"Shoot!" I hold back the urge to swear, rushing around my time room for all my belongings.
Curse me and my stupid dancing.
I slip my bag over my shoulder, all the heavy books bouncing against my spine as I ran through the house, causing me to wince a little.
I quickly opened the front door, unintentionally slamming it behind me. I take a small glance back all the run-down houses, lined up sloppily against the curb. My eyes take in the surroundings I walk past each day, all the crumpled rubbish, and chipped paint layering the walls of each home.
As you can tell, I'm definitely not one of the rich kids. As a matter of fact, I'm classed as a poor person, which is sadly true. But I'm not going to let that get me down today. I feel the warm sun against my face, yet not warm enough for me to take off my lovely sweater.
I basically live in this thing. My grandma bought it for me for my birthday two years ago, before she passed away the following month. I guess you could say it has some sentimental value. I miss her. She was my favourite family member. One, because she was the coolest, most kindest person ever, and two, she didn't drink, smoke, or do drugs.
Too bad the secondhand smoke from my mothers cigarettes killed her.
I shut my eyes. Positivity Miliania, Stay positive.
