There are times when we get the wrong calls or even the wrong numbers. Most of us just brush it off and continue with our day as if nothing had ever happened. Nobody has ever had to deal with the pain of having the same number call over and over again, that is until Cara gets a call to her cellphone one rainy afternoon.
Getting a new phone can be a challenging thing especially for me. I have the mind of an elderly and can not work a new smart phone for my life. Why can't they just make it simple? A key pad, the green button to make a call, and the red button to hang up. Simple as that. The worst thing is I had to actually change my phone number to get it upgraded.
Joy.
When I get to my small apartment, Kim is already there waiting for me to watch re-runs of Friends.
"Did you get it? What color is it? Is it an iPhone?" Kim asks.
I dig into my bag and retrieve the small, thin, white iPhone.
"Yeah I did. They made me change my number so you need to change my old number from your contacts." I reply.
She rushes to her room and quickly comes back to living room holding her phone.
We spend the most of the afternoon trying to get all my contacts into my new phone and messaging my friends to let them know that my prehistoric old phone is no longer in use.
By the time Kim and I finish it's almost six in the evening.
"I'm going to make us some pasta. Is that good for dinner?" I ask Kim.
She has my phone I her hands and doesn't even look up at me, she simply just nods.
I shake my head and make my way into the kitchen to start making my creation.
Not even 5 minutes into getting the ingredients I hear a phone ring.
"Umm Cara? Are you sure we put all your contacts in?" I hear Kim ask.
I tilt my head to side and make my way to the living room where my phone has stopped ringing only to ring again.
"Yes. I doubled checked to make sure everyone was in there."
The phones ringing was starting to annoy me so I grab it out of Kims hands and answer it.
"Hello?" I ask
The person on the other line does not reply. I can only hear the person breathing and the faint sound of a television.
"Hello?" I repeat.
Still no one answers.
I take the phone away from my ear and take a look at the number.
Unknown.
I hang up quickly.
Maybe it's just some prankers. Yeah just some prankers.
"That was really creepy." Says Kim with wide eyes.
I simply just shrug it off and make my way into the kitchen to continue on my master piece.
After I finish dinner, Kim and I eat normally and we quickly forget about the mysterious call.
"Do you remember freshman year? It was the best! All the pranks that we pulled! Jake was always taking it to the next level." Kim's face is red from laughing so hard at our college memories.
I slowly recover from our laughing fit when I hear my phone ring again.
Kim's laughter dies down as she looks up and sees my face.
