And Allya was going to find out what.
"Oi, Golding, come here a second," Allya requested.
Golding took a few moments to stand up, then took the few steps towards Allya and whinnied. In a sudden, upward jerking motion, Allya slashed her arm on the horses' exposed teeth. Blood started welling up in the cut on her arm, and she took a step back.
Golding whinnied again in distress and tried to come closer. Allya held her good arm out to ward the horse off. "What are you?"
Golding stared at her blankly.
Allya tilted her arm so the blood ran down and pooled in her palm. She repeated her words a little more forcefully. "What, are you?"
Golding tilted his head. I do not know what you are talking about.
Allya raised her eyebrows and dug her fingers into the cut on her left arm.
With are scream, Allya fell to her knees onto the green grass.
The voice in her head sounded alarmed. What are you doing?
Allya pushed herself away from Golding using both hands. She stopped and stared as her blood touched the ground. Where it touched, smoke immediately started rising, along with a burning smell.
The grass was on fire.
Golding shrieked and reared majestically onto his back legs. Allya forgot about her plan and scrambled up, stumbling back, out of the reach of the orange flames. They licked up the grass and the trees, and the dawn flowers, coming closer.
"Golding!" Allya screamed. It was an instinctual call, for the one thing in her life she trusted to always be there for her.
Allya screamed again as flames caught onto her clothes. They went up quickly, and the skin underneath started to blacken and burn.
"Golding!" Allya screamed. What did you do when you caught on fire? Her mind had gone completely blank, so she just stared at the flames curling up and around her arms and legs, causing the blackened skin to peel away.
Allya started to cry. Pain. Pain as she had never experienced it.
All of a sudden, Golding came plunging through the flames. The horse had burn marks scorching his beautiful palomino coat, and his mane and tail had been burnt off.
As Allya watched, he Transformed.
And now, a beautiful blue-eyed, blonde-haired boy stood in front of her, burnt, and on fire, just as she was.
Allya completely forgot about the pain and focused on the boy. "Golding?" She whispered.
He stood before her, godly in his presence: Tall, strong. "I will not stand by and watch you burn," he told her.
"What happened?" Allya whispered, as the boy took her up in his arms. "Demon blood. Demon blood causes death in which it touches."
"I'm... I'm a demon?"
The boy turned his blue eyes on her. "And I'm your angel."
