After the final bell rang to signal the end of school, I rushed from class as quickly as possible to avoid not only Harry, but Leila as well. I needed to tell Harry I may need to postpone our meet up until the weekend, I couldn't handle awkwardly admitting to a notorious 'bad boy' that I had to do my homework.
The gates were in sight, just fifteen quick steps and I could round the corner and disappear. No such luck.
"Elli wait up!" Someone shouted. I made the rash decision to keep walking, so I stuffed in my earphones and pressed play.
'IN THE ARMS OF THE OCEAN...' my music shouted, at the highest volume. It was like a bomb had exploded in my ears. I jumped and hastily ripped the earbuds out, a little too forcefully. My phone flew out of my hand, and my life flashed before my eyes as it soared through the sky in slow motion."Fuck!" I shrieked, and it was too late. My beautiful phone had landed screen up. I ran toward it, prepared for the consequences of ditching my phone onto the bitumen.
"Fuck, Elli is that your phone?" Harry caught up with me and bent down to pick up the useless chunk of metal. He pressed the switch as I glared at him. The screen showed an array of spidery cracks and two vivid green stripes blocking most of my screensaver. UGH.
Anger filled me and my head was hot."Just go away would you?" I shouted, loud enough to cause several people around us to look and snicker. Harry looked as unaffected as ever. Simply looking at his calculating face with his raised eyebrow made me angry. It's basically his fault that My phone just smashed. Okay maybe that's not exactly fair Elli. I told myself.
I grabbed my useless phone and stormed off. He didn't even attempt to stop me, which angered me even more... I mean, no it didn't.
I was fuming the whole way home.

When I got to my house mum still wasn't home. I placed my dead phone on the counter and got straight to making an afternoon snack to satisfy my rumbling stomach.
What shall I have today? Toast? No; I'm way too lazy to wait for it to cook. A banana? Nah. Fresh chocolate chip cookies that are still warm and sitting on the kitchen bench? Yes! Wait, why are they warm?
"Mum?" I yelled. The car wasn't in the driveway and her handbag wasn't in it's usual spot, so she must have just left.
I reached for my phone, before being rudely reminded that it was broken when a sliver of glass sliced my finger.
We didn't have need for a landline since we had our mobiles, so I would have to ask at a neighbours house if I wanted to use a phone to call mum. I decided that if she wasn't home in an hour, I would use a neighbours phone.
Until then, I helped myself to four cookies that tasted fresh from the oven, and got started on my homework. Teachers were ruthless, it's the second day of year 11 and this homework could take me about four hours. Ugh.
"Look on the bright side Elli, at least you don't have a phone to distract you." I sighed to myself.

The huge wooden wall clock ticked past 5, then 5:30. It's been over an hour, where is she?
Slowly, I got up from the table and took my time walking to the door, she could be home any second now. I procrastinated further by straightening a few photos on the wall, grabbing another cookie that was now cold, stupidly contemplating whether I would need a jacket on this hot Australian afternoon. Just go Elli! I internally yelled at myself.
I walked to my next door neighbour. In the little pale blue house lived Sherry, a friendly and ditzy middle aged lady. She didn't seem to be home. No lights were on in the house and her car was also missing from the driveway.
I knocked with the silver door knocker that was polished to a shine. The house didn't stir and no one came to the door.
The next house, made of red bricks, belonged to an old married couple. They were away on a cruise though, so I didn't bother knocking on that door. It would be great being rich and retired, I thought.
Three houses along and I still had no luck, the whole street must be enjoying the last months of summer at the beach or on a holiday.
I could have just gone to Leila's house, but no doubt she was still mad at me for interrupting her makeout session, and I could not be bothered to deal with her.
I came to a large dark house, I wasn't sure who lived in this one because they had only recently moved in. My stomach dropped and butterflies churned up my stomach as I walked up the long paved path towards this mansion. Why am I so nervous?
Ringing the doorbell sent eerie chimes calling through the house. A few seconds later the door creaked open and the suspense made It felt like I was in a scene from a horror film.
I found myself facing a chiseled chest dotted with several tattoos , belonging to a guy with messy, curly hair and electric green eyes.
