Chapter 1

"Hello," chirped the receptionist for Dawnus Academy for the Gifted, "You must be Arabella Maxwell." I nodded in reply as she glanced around her desk in search of a paper. Today is the Saturday before school starts and I'm here for the "New Student Orientation". "Here it is." the receptionist finally looked up and handed me a paper. "It's your schedule," she got up from behind her desk and motioned for me to follow her, "The Orientation will be taking place in the gym where you will meet your guide for freshmen year. She is there to help you get adjusted to our school and high school life in general." Her high pitched voice immediately turned me off, sounding like one of those annoying infomercials telling me things I didn't want to hear and making this place sound like A paradise i knew it wasn't. We stopped walking as we approached two sets of double doors. "and hear is the gym." I nodded and opened the door, looking around in amazement. The gym was big, really big. There were purple bleachers to one side filled with what I assumed to be the freshmen of the coming year. As I walked towards the bleachers containing my fellow classmates I heard my name being called. I turned around just as a caramel colored girl with long dark brown curls bumped straight into me.

She stumbled backwards and blinked before speaking, "You're Arabella Maxwell right?" I nodded my head in reply, curious about how she knew me. "Great! I'm Heather Coleman, your guide for senior year."

"Umm, hi" I replied. She reached out to shake my hand, slightly moving her purple and gray Dawnus Academy Leopards sweatshirt.

"So, let's get started." Heather said as she dragged me down the halls pointing out my classes. "Looks like we have Geometry, English Honors, and Physical Science Honors together," I nodded again. She stopped walking and turned to face me. "You don't talk much do you?"

"I talk." I stated simply. She looked at me and smiled.

"I think this is the beginning of a good friendship"
