The Malfoys have been Slytherins for centuries. They had been Death Eaters for centuries and breaking that tradition was out of the question. During the First Wizarding War, Lucius Malfoy had killed many innocent lives. He had made his family proud and other families miserable. One specific family that he killed was the McKinnon family. He had killed each and every member of that family except Mark McKinnon, the head of that family. Mark McKinnon was the father of Marlene McKinnon. He had died of natural death on his death bed, a day after his entire family was killed.
He hated Lucius Malfoy with a burning passion. He wanted the man to suffer for what he had done. Therefore he had used his last dying breath to place a curse on the Malfoys.
"The firstborn of Lucius Malfoy will be born with a curse. The firstborn will be a dragon and the infant will be miserable."
