I woke up in a cold sweat, breathing heavily. Another bad dream, nothing new. It always terrified my sleep drugged mind though... As I clutched the bedsheets and stared at the ceiling, my heart rate slowed. Soon the smell of cooking bacon wafted into my room and I grinned, John only cooked breakfast when he was in a good mood.
So I rolled off the bed and put on some pants, opening my door and heading into the kitchen. He sees me and smiles as he plates up food for two. We begin eating quietly at the table as Gerald comes in and yawns.

"What, no breakfast for me?"

"No, you don't have an important interview today."

Some boring talk goes on like this during the morning. A few people come and go, some small arguments but nothing notable. Nothing interesting ever seems to happen in our frat house. Eventually I take a shower and dress up in something a bit more presentable before driving to the new startup kids' restaurant I'd sent my resume to. The pay wouldn't be great, but it would definitely be better than nothing. Apparently they had some new technology for the place and didn't want it stolen in the middle of the night. Something about robots... No, that's not what they called them, they were animatr-

"Shit!"

I looked back and cursed a few more times under my breath before taking a slightly illegal U-turn, feeling the centripetal force almost flip my car. I'd been caught up in my thoughts and missed the turnoff. Soon though, I was headed into the parking lot of the new restaurant. I knocked on the glass door that had a brightly coloured sign on it which proclaimed, "Open soon, come back on July 8th!" Soon some guy with a hard hat opened the door, blocking the way with his large body so that I couldn't come in.

"Who're you?"

He didn't sound very inviting at all, but I supposed it wasn't his job to be. When I said I'd applied for a job as a security guard, he nodded gruffly and moved out of the way, pointing me to the manager's office.

The interview went swimmingly. Thirty minutes later, I was given both a job and a tour of the place. I half paid attention as he showed me the building, it was the usual stuff. A couple janitor's closets and a maintenance closet, whatever the difference between the two was. A kitchen, obviously. A huge dining area, where you could see a large stage and some smaller stage that was covered with a curtain. There were two halls, one labelled "W. Hall" and one labelled "E. Hall". Lastly we came to my office, or at least it was my office during the night. Currently occupying it was a kid whose name I never quite caught, he'd been hired as the daytime guard.

The office was tiny. I could stand in the middle of it and reach my arms out to touch every wall without moving my feet. There was a desk with random papers on it and a small fan, the daytime guard opened a drawer to show a nightstick and a heavy duty flashlight.

"To be honest, the flashlight would probably do more damage than the nightstick."

I pity laughed at the manager's joke and tried sitting in the small swivel chair. Thank God it was ridiculously comfy, as I'd be sitting in it for hours on end. I left the restaurant with instructions to come back at 11:30pm.

After a night of laughing and playing video game with the other frat guys, I came back to the pizzeria armed with my phone and a pair of earbuds. Once in my office, I spun in the chair and popped my earbuds in. This would be a totally easy job, all I had to do was patrol the place a few times every night until they installed the cameras. After that, it would just be a matter of flicking through the cameras. Free money, the manager had said. It was a score of a job, especially since there was almost no local jobs that didn't require any experience. And so I settled in for my first night, soon I was fast asleep...
