Leo's POV
I was sitting in our usual hummer and driving up North to New Hampshire to complete a transaction with the Mexican cartel. Of course, the Mexican cartel would want to go as far up North as possible so that it wasn't completely obvious to the government what we were doing. Meanwhile, my pack thinks that I'm in upstate New York, talking to stock brokers about bonds.
I hated lying to my pack but I did not want to put any of them in danger. You see, running America's biggest pack takes quite a bit of money and time. Money, especially in this economy, is hard to come by but I was able to make it work by starting up a drug business and now I am one of the most powerful drug dealers in existence. Of course, it hasn't been very easy, lying to the pack and hiding from the government. It's a dirty and complicated business, but when you add the fact that I'm a werewolf into the mix, it's almost impossible. Almost.
"Alpha, we're approaching the ski lodges," one of my security guards said.
"Thank you, Blake," I nodded. This trip wasn't as dangerous as the others so I only had two security guards with me, Blake and Flynn. Flynn was my Beta and I guess you could say that Blake was my third in command. Out of all those in the pack, they were the ones that I had trusted the most and they knew about the drug business. I guess you could call me a mafia leader since I had other people working for me, some were part of my pack and others weren't. Like I said, it's complicated, but it's highly necessary for my pack's survival and I would do anything for my pack.
"So, what exactly are we doing here?" Flynn asked me. Out of the three of us, he was always the most relaxed and immature. We were in a shootout one time, and he was right beside me cracking jokes. Sometimes his lack of seriousness can be annoying, but he is my best friend and I know he'd take a bullet for me.
"We're just picking up a couple of pounds and the 60k that the cartel owes us," I said, nonchalantly. The cartel had hidden the drugs underneath the floorboards of one of the log cabins, along with the money, and all we needed to do was pick it up. Even though it was just a regular pick up, it never hurt to have back up in case it was an ambush. You don't become a mafia boss without making a few enemies.
"Here we are," Blake said, pulling up to one of the abandoned houses. It was the middle of July and therefore no one was around the ski lodges. It was actually a nice place but it had an eeire vibe since it was so silent. Flynn hopped out of the backseat as soon as Blake turned the car off.
"Check the perimeter," I ordered him, as I got out myself and tried to evaluate my surrondings. Being a werewolf had its perks since I had heightened senses and I could tell if there was someone about to pop out. I scanned the area but the only thing I could see was a few other log cabins and the woods that were less than a mile away.
Flynn came back from his perimeter check with a serious look on his face. "I couldn't completely tell but I feel like I smelled someone in the cabin," he said. In response, Blake and I pulled our guns out of our pockets and approached the cabin slowly.
"I'll go first, Alpha," Blake volunteered and he silently opened the unlocked door. I followed behind him, and Flynn covered my back. As soon as I entered the cabin, I could tell what Flynn was talking about but it didn't smell like someone from the Mexican cartel. In fact, it smelled... fantastic.
"Wait," I said to Blake, taking in the scent. I decided that whoever it was would not be a threat and therefore I could go first. I looked around the living room and saw that it looked like someone had been here very recently. There were cups on the table and magazines still opened on the couch. Then I heard some shuffling around in the bedroom down the hall.
"Someone's here, but I don't think they knew we were coming," I whispered to them, as I began to approach the bedroom. The scent became more powerful and overwhelming. "Wait, Alpha...," Blake started to protest but I had already opened the door.
A young woman with redish brown hair turned around and screamed. She looked frightened and almost slightly annoyed but that wasn't what struck me. I was captivated by her glistening green eyes and her lightly tanned skin. My eyes took in her slender legs and her curvy shape until it reached back up to her face. I could see that she was still glaring at me, but I could only think of one word. Mate.
"Guns down, boys," I said to Blake and Flynn, knowing that they were on high alert. "She's not a threat, and the money should be under the floorboards in the living room." Flynn and Blake left the bedroom, leaving me alone to be with my mate.
"I'm really sorry for intruding, I didn't know this house was going to be in use and I just really needed a place to stay so I guess I'll be going now," my mate stammerred and began to try and walk past me when my arm reached out and grabbed her. Sparks travelled up my arm, confirming that she was my mate and her eyes grew wide when she realized the bond, too.
"Why leave so soon? I think we should get to know each other," I smirked down at her and took a step closer so she wouldn't be able to get around me. Her eyes widen and darkened slightly, and I could tell I was getting to her.
"I really do have to go, I think I have someone waiting for me," her voice was soft but I could tell she wasn't going anywhere. My foolish little mate, I could already see right through her.
"I think that they can wait a little longer," I said huskily as I tilted her chin up and began to lower my head. My eyes were begining to close as I was about to kiss her when she stepped back very fast.
"Oh hell no, buddy. Just because you're my mate doesn't mean you're getting into my pants the first day. I don't just go around making out with strangers," she said, crossing her arms. My mate wasn't as shy and innocent as I had originally thought I guess. I chuckled at her attitude.
"Fine, let's start with names. I'm Leo, what's yours?" I introduced myself, holding out my hand.
"Scarlett," she said, shaking mine. Scarlett. What a perfect name for such a little spitfire. With her hand still in mine, I pulled her back into my chest.
"Well, Scarlett, now that we aren't strangers, how about that kiss?" I said as I began to resume where we left off. However, Scarlett turned her face and I ended up kissing her cheek. I pulled back in surpise.
"Well, Leo, it was great meeting you, but I'm afraid I have to go. Maybe we'll meet again," she said, walking out of the bedroom. Watching my mate walk away from me angered me. As an Alpha, I was highly territorial and as a Mafia boss, I always got what I wanted. I followed her back into the living room where I saw that Flynn and Blake had found the drugs and money and put the room back together. Scarlett was about to walk around them when I grabbed her by the waist and threw her over my shoulder.
"Alright boys, let's head back," I said as Scarlett began to scream and kick.
"Put me down, you big doofus," she said as she started hitting my back.
"Uh, sir, what are you going to do with the girl?" Blake asked.
"She's gonna be our new Luna so we're taking her back to our territory," I grinned at them mischievously. "Alright!" Flynn said, as he fist pumped me and Blake grinned at me. "Boys, meet my mate, Scarlett."
"Go to hell. All of you."
I could tell that this wouldn't be easy.
