Prologue
That day, the day my life changed forever will be eternally fixed in my mind.
It began like any other day. I got up at seven in the morning, took a shower, got dressed, had breakfast, brushed my teeth and was out the door in forty five minutes. My parents were never home so I didn't have anyone to say good bye to before leaving for school, but that was normal.
The walk to school took fifteen minutes, as it always had. I never met any classmates on the way and walked with them. I didn't have any friends.
People had always thought I was a freak. I never understood why. I tried my hardest to keep my appearance nice and elegant like the other girls in school. I even cut my long black hair shoulder length when everyone began doing it too. I got good grades and played my hardest during sports.
But everyone seemed to stay away.
I was shy, I have to admit, but I did try to make friends with people in the beginning. But I guess I just gave up.
So on that day when I got to school, I never expected someone to wish me a happy thirteenth birthday.
I took my seat at the back in class and listened to the lesson on World War II. I took detailed notes while casually glancing at the clock, that hung above the door, every few minutes. I would officially turn thirteen at 9:48 am. I wanted to make a wish at that exact moment. I never heard about anyone making a wish exactly as they turned into a teenager, but it seemed like the greatest idea at the time.
At 9:38 am I took out my diary. I stopped taking notes on the lesson and began to write. I wrote about what the last ten minutes of being a child felt like. About how I had never had a single friend and didn't remember the last time I had a good time. I wrote about the last time I smiled and how I wish it would all change at 9:48 am on that September morning.
I finished an entire page at 9:45 am and looked outside the window. Dark clouds were coming in and I hoped that wasn't a bad sign.
I looked back at the clock and counted down as the second hand ticked closer to 12. Five... four... three... two... one... I took a deep breath, I was thirteen.
I studied my surroundings. Everything seemed exactly the same. The teacher kept talking about World War II and the students kept taking notes quietly.
I clasped my hands together and was about to make my wish when suddenly my body froze over. It began from the top of my head and went slowly down my back to the tips of my toes. I couldn't move my fingers and arms, my muscles just weren't working. I was about to call out for help when I felt my eyes roll back inside my head.
Then I started violently shaking.
I fell from my seat and onto the floor. Everyone gasped as my body made a thump on the hard ground. I faintly heard the teacher calling my name, but then everything went blank.
