Aiden Pescod
“Um, Aiden, maybe you sho-” Callum was cut off by my loud growl. If he was about to suggest I left my mate he could think again. Callum, Ash, Dylan, Jack and Hudson all stood behind looking between me and my mate cautiously, looking worried about what I would do.
Upon hearing someone approaching from somewhere behind my mate, my wolf’s protective instincts took over and I grabbed her pulling her into the safety of my arms, where I knew she was protected from the oncoming threat.
Dylan and Ash immediately stood by my sides, with Callum, Hudson and Jack spread around us. While it may have normally been Ash or Dylan standing in my place, as they were the unofficial ‘leaders’ of the group, I was at the front today. It was my mate we were protecting, and I knew, even though I had just met her that my brothers (although not by blood) would stand by me and keep her safe if need be.
I barely had time to think about the amazing feelings running through my body from having my mate- whose name I did not know- in my arms, because at that moment three pack wolves came running through the trees, looking scared.
“El-,” the girl speaking started, but stopped herself when she saw the group of rogues standing before her. Her eyes widened in panic as she took in the situation; me holding my mate, who looked torn between struggling to get away and leaning into me, surrounded by five other rogues, all of who looked intimidating and the perfect definition of a rogue. As pack wolves, we must have been terrifying to them.
We fell into silence for a moment, before one of the two boys spoke hesitantly, although I had to give him credit for having the bravery to break the painfully awkward silence. “Elise, are you OK? What’s going on?”
Elise. I smiled as I decided the name suited her.
My mate, Elise, looked away from me, seeming surprised to notice other presences around us. I growled when she tried to step away from me.
“I- um… he’s my, uh,” she stumbled over her words, and although I would have preferred the first time I heard her speak to have been in a coherent sentence, I could still distinguish the gentleness of her tone. “He’s my mate,” she finally choked out, even though the process of getting to that short sentence had been painful.
“Who are you?” I asked the people Elise spoke to. I was praying to God that she wasn’t in a relationship with any of them- my wolf couldn’t have handled it and I would have lost control.
They still seemed hesitant towards us, but again the boy who spoke before spoke again. “I’m Kyle. This is Paige and Emery,” the boy gestured to the people as he named them. “We’re Elise’s friends. Who are you?” He questioned fairly, while I celebrated the relief that they were just friends.
I shared a glance with Dylan, debating whether or not we should tell them our names. Of course, I would tell Elise at some point- she was my mate and I could trust her, but for the other pack wolves I had low expectations in their amounts of trust- like I did with most pack wolves.
Dylan shook his head subtly, so, instead of answering, I held my mate closer and ignored their question.
Without warning, Elise pulled out of my arms and stepped back a few steps, so she was out of my reach- something my wolf didn’t like, especially from the look on her face.
“What?” I asked, seeing she was looking at me like I had betrayed her in some way.
“You’re a rogue,” she stated. At first, I had to stop the sarcastic remark begging to leave my mouth.
