I was awoken by a gentle shake. Without an explanation, Seth pulled me up from the mattress and rushed me out of the house. He looked worried about something. When he stopped pulling me along the street, I asked him what was wrong.
"Stay here and wait for me" he said, shoving his pack into my arms. He ran back to the house, leaving me without an explanation as to what just happened. I thought that maybe he had left something behind, and was quickly grabbing it, but I didn't understand why I would have needed to have been woken this early in the morning and rushed out of the house. Hopefully there wasn't any danger. If I lost him, I would have no one left... he's the only person I have now... the only friend...

I'd been waiting here for about 6 minutes now. Still worried, I decided I was going to walk towards the house, when suddenly BOOM! I heard a massive explosion and saw a ball of fire rise from where Seth's house used to be. I started running. If he was still in there, then he'd be dead. I'd have lost my only friend. I got to the road the house was on, and I saw his limp body slumped against the wall. I ran over to him, and noticed the blood on the ground. I was crying now. I tried to pick him up, but I only managed to lift him enough to drag him along the ground. I dragged him up the stairs from the village to the shopping district, and on to the medical centre. I knew a few tricks from an old family friend, who worked there as a doctor, and tied a crude bandage around his head to stop the flow of blood. Sadly, our kingdom was a relatively poor one, and so we couldn't hire anyone skilled enough in medical magic. In fact, we had no magic users at all. It would cost too much to hire even one magic teacher, let alone enough to make a difference. So, with the bandage on Seth's head, I sat next to him and waited.
