"Dad!"
I sprint into my father's embrace and tackle him to the ground the second he steps out of the airport, grinning widely. He lets out a soft grunt as I knock the air out of him, almost making him fall. I laugh loudly, cheeks reddened with adrenaline and sheer happiness.
"You're back, you're really back!" I jump around a little as he carries his suitcases back to the car, where Mum stands, hand on hip. She struggles to hide her own growing smile, trying to maintain her standard "stern lawyer" pose.
"I'm here in the flesh, Nova." I'd been getting impatient after only being able to see him through video chats and calls for the entirety of the year.He gazes down at me, green eyes glistening, as he steps to Mum's side, engulfing her in a side hug as he pecks her lips. I cringe and turn away from them. Like, PDA much? Dad chortles and swings Mum around in his arms.
"Hi, honey. How was the trip?"
"Boring, without my two favourite girls," he chuckles, ever the charmer. Mum makes a funny strangled sound and looks down, shielding her crimson face with a thick curtain of obsidian hair.
"You still haven't changed at all since college, why aren't I surprised?" she laughs and shakes her head slightly.
"Me? Change? Who would want to change this fine-ass body?" he smirks, gesturing to his well maintained physique.
I gasp, and widen my eyes. "Dad!"
Mum hits his shoulder, blushing more than I've ever seen.I catch something pass between the two of them while they stand there, as dad roams his eyes up and down her frame. She is so tall and so pretty, a towering greek statue of power. There is a sudden electric spark, not visible, but I can feel it in the air, startling the hairs on my arms, and causing a shiver to pass through me. The evident connection, that binds my father and mother together.
A crackling haze, an invisible rope that intertwines their hearts, and forms them as one. He takes her hand, and they look into each other's eyes, rekindling and building that fiery passion that tied them together. I see it in their gazes, such an immortal bond that nothing and no one can break. Their actions speak volumes louder than their words. This was the emotion they call love. I wish at that moment, that one day, I will luckily have a chance of some sort to experience this.
"You haven't changed either, darling," he mumbles into her ear, and a small moment of silence instills. Dad sees me staring, blinks and turns away, grinning his mouth off. He puts a hand on her shoulder, and laughs suddenly as he seems to have realised something. I skip back to them, and he puts a hand on my head.
"But you know what?" He says, out of the blue.
"Hmm?" My mum hums into his side.
"I wouldn't change what I have for the world."~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
