"Welcome to our Joke shop!" Fred and George Weasley greeted as I walked in. "Well hello, Maya, my favorite prankster! What would you like to buy?" Fred asked.
"Do you have any more of those Fire Frogs?"
"Yes indeed! Come with me!"
I smiled and followed him to the back of the store, where there happened to be a fresh batch of Fire Frogs. They looked like toy frogs, but if touch its head, it would turn into green fire that smelled like a swamp. I wanted to prank one of the Slytherin girls, for breaking my project. "Here you go!" Fred put a few carefully wrapped Fire Frogs into my bag.
"Thanks, Fred! I'm going to look around some more."
"Alright, see you later! Say hi to my brother for me!"
"Sure!"
I smiled and walked toward Hermione and Ginny, who were looking at the stand of love potions.
"I better warn Harry and Ron about you guys." I giggled.
Both turns bright red when they saw that caught that them.
"What-t-t we weren't going-" Ginny stumbled.
"Sure..." I replied with a wink.
"Why do you have fire frogs, Maya?" Hermione asked.
"Remember those Slytherin girls that broke my project my Diviation class?"
"Yeah..."
"I'm getting them back."
"Have fun. What was it anyway?"
"I had to predict something and show it on a crystal ball."
"Well what did you predict?"
I rolled my eyes. "It broke before I the prediction showed up. It showed a zombie apocalypse. I have a weird dreams about it, which is why I knew that I couldn't fix the-"
"Er- Maya? Wasn't it just a few cracks? Your predictions are pretty accurate.."
"Yeah, has but still. Zombies don't-"
Suddenly, there were shrieks coming from outside the store. Wands out, we ran to the door to find-
Zombies.
Zombies?
ZOMBIES?!?!
Zombies were literally chasing people around Hogsmeade.
"WAKE UP MAYA!" I yelled at myself. Nothing. I blinked a few times. Nothing. How did I predict zombies when others just predicted surprise exams or Professor Snape giving them detention?
"Are those really Zombies?" Ginny asked, trembling.
"What are zombies doing here?" Ron asked as his sister clutched his arm. Fred and George got out their fire works and threw them at the monsters.
"Don't worry, Ginny!" They said together. "Dad'll sort this out this out at the ministry.
"Guys! We gotta get out of here!" I yelled.
"How?"
"We got here by brooms!"
"Right!"
"Reducto! Secumspara!" I called out, waving my wand in the correct patterns to get rid of the zombies. When it was clear, we all flew off. I saw other students run away in panic, spelling off any incoming zombies. Sadly, some wizards and witches were attacked and fell to the ground, unconscious.
Where is the ministry?
All of us were zooming through the skies at quick speeds until we could see Hogwarts.
"Hagrid!" I yelled as we got down. "Hagrid, there are zombies at Hogsmeade!"
The giant wizard turned away from feeding a small animal to look at me.
"Lass, you told me about y'ar prediction. Ya said it yourself, it was-"
"No, Hagrid, it's ACTUALLY happening!"
"What are you talking about, lassie?"
"It's true!" Harry said panting. A few more students arrived, yelling about it.
"Everyone, be quiet! Surely the ministry's there already!"
"No they aren't!" Some adult yelled, as she apparated here.
"What's going?" Dumbledore boomed. "And why is everyone outside! Come inside, students! You too, Hagrid and Mrs. Abott."
Everyone nodded and walked inside.
"Now what is it?"
"Maya here predicted a zombie apocalypse of sorts. And zombies appeared at Hogsmeade."
I gulped. Everyone began staring at me. I couldn't help but feel guilty, even though it couldn't possibly be my fault for causing such a thing.
"This isn't a joke is it?" Dumbledore asked me, noticing my bag from the joke shop.
I shook my head slowly.
"No, Headmaster. I predicted a zombie apocalypse from a broken crystal ball for Divination, and zombies were attacking at Hogsmeade just now." I answered softly.
"Has anyone else made such a prediction."
"Not that I'm aware, sir. Professor Trelawney would know for sure."
"DUMBLEDORE!! DUMBLOREDORE!" Professor Trelawney screamed as she ran toward us.
"Speaking of....."
"Dumbledore! One of my students, Maya- hello Maya-" she looked at me in horror. "Maya! You predicted the zombies! I saw it just now! It was in my crystal ball! I had predicted darkness coming and I thought it was You-Know-Who-" everyone shuddered at the mention of the Dark Lord. "And-but it was the zombies!"
"Alright, Trelawney, calm down. Come with me. You too, Maya."
I gulped and followed him, sparing a raised eyebrow to Fred. He smiled goofily, and pointed to his ear.
Even during the most trying times, Fred and George know how to make me smile.
We walked quietly to Headmaster'a office. His Phoenix chirped a greeting as we walked in.
"So, Maya, could you try to make another prediction?"
I looked at him wide eyed. I did not want to make another stupid prediction. I had half a mind to quit divinitation, even if it was one of my favorites classes. "Trelawney, give her what she needs."
"Gladly." She handed me a mug and herbs, from her satchel, with her wild eyes full of pity. I stood there looking between both professors, not knowing what to say.
"Please, Maya. You are the only one who predicted this. Maybe you can find out what's caused zombies to appear." Dumbledore asked gently.
I sighed and sat down, getting straight to work. Soon, the black mush began to form a shape.
I took a deep breath and held it in.
The mush stopped morphing, and held the shape of a....
Dementor.
It seemed to be hovering over a grave, where a zombie began to climb at.
"Dementors?" I horsely screeched. "D-D-Dementors are responsible?"
Fear turned to anger as I looked at the image.
I hated the dementors. They sucked the life out of people. They almost killed me once.
Until I used my Patronus against it.
I lost a friend to one of them. I was too late.
"We need to contact the Ministry..." Dumbledore murmured quietly. "Maya, will you be alright going back to your dorm?"
"Yes, Headmaster."
"We'll send a message to all the houses, but you can go ahead and tell your fellow classmates and friends."
"Okay."
I angrily marched back to the dorms, ignoring Peeves, who seemed suddenly interested in my sudden change of mood.
"S'matter, Maya? Joke didn't go too well?"
"Shut up, Peeves."
"But it's so fun to poke fun at you. Not as much as some of the Ravenclaws, though. I love messing with their logic."
"Ugh. Hey, where'd that fat lady go?"
I looked at the portraits around me, wondering where she went. I can't exactly go in without her.
"AHHHHHHHHHHHH! ZOMBIES!!" The fat lady screeches as she fell back into her painting.
"Yes, there was some zombies at Hogsmeade-"
"You predicted it right!"
"Yes, I need to- wait how did you know?
"Everyone was chattering about it. Dear child, come in!!"
"What about the-?"
"In you go!"
"Okay, okay, yeesh."
I climbed through, where there was a lot of chattering about the zombies. All the noise halted as soon as I walked in.
I looked downward, trying to avoid curious stares, and head my dorm. Instead of the funny prankster girl, I was now the girl who predicted the zombie apocalypse.
Now I know how Harry Potter feels.
A hand suddenly grabbed my shoulder.
"Maya!" It was Fred.
I turned to face him. "Hey."
"What did Dumbledore say?"
Everyone gathered around to hear what he said. Well... I might as well tell them....
"He asked me to make another prediction and I did.... the ones responsible for the zombies are..." I took a deep breath. "Dementors. They raised dead people from their graves and somehow made them attack innocent people."
Everyone gasped and didn't know what to say.
"How?"
"I'm not too sure.... Dementors take the life out of people, not raise soul less bodies."
"How would we defeat them?"
"I... I don't know...." I hated that I didn't know how to stop the zombies.
I went inside my dorm and quietly wrote to my family. I gave the letter to my owl, Lilly, a gold feathered owl with bright green eyes. She flew off as I lay in my bed.
I thought back to the Sorting Hat ceremony, when I first came to Hogwarts. It went a little like this:
"Maya Phoenix!"
I walk to the chair and bit my lip in nervousness. I sat down, worried about the Hat telling me that I won't get sorted at all and that it was a mistake for me to be at Hogwarts.
"Hey kid, you worry too much!" It said. "now lets see.... Ah you are kind and bit of a prankster. Smart too. Got a head start on studying spells, didn't you, reading your family's spell books. Oh, but what's this.... a prophesy?"
I gulped. "It was the crazy sayings of my-"
"Grandma. No, she wasn't crazy, she is an Oracle. You are destined to lead magic folk alike against something impossible. Enough of that, GRYFFINDOR!"
