Samantha Bennett sat alone at her table, her drink untouched.
She had come out tonight to try and unwind from the stress of getting unpacked and settled along with the initial struggle of getting used to both a new town and a new life.
Looking around, her eyes wandered over the small but adequate crowd scattered about; a few couples were seated at tables while others occupied the leather padded oak stools at the bar.
Los Angeles was definitely a far cry from New York and Samantha couldn't help noticing the differences between the west coast crowd from the east coast crowd. Her eyes wandered across the room; studying the different styles and faces, soon falling upon a familiar face.
Looking past them at first, her eyes then returned as realization then hit her.
It couldn't be...
Samantha was so wrapped up in both thought and surprise, she hadn't even noticed she had also been spotted until she found herself looking up into the face of a memory from long ago.
"Sammie?!" He spoke, looking down at her and smiling that same smile that she remembered and that always made her heart thunder. "Is that you?!"
It is...
Samantha couldn't believe it, her first night out in a new town had now found her face-to-face with her childhood best friend; Eric Singer.
"Eric?!" She managed to finally say.
Eric gently clasped her hands with his, helping her to her feet as he wrapped her in a hug.
"I can't believe it's you!!" He said, gently rubbing her back.
Samantha couldn't believe it was him either, they hadn't see one another in nearly eight years.
The two of them had met in first grade when Samantha's family had moved to Ohio. Alone and scared in a new place, Eric was the first and almost only person whom had talked to her. He had noticed her crying on the playground one day when some older kids were making fun of her and had nobly defended her; causing them to retreat.
Since that day, the two had became best friends and had remained close until Eric had hit it big when he became the drummer for the Hottest Band in the World; KISS.
Eric had went off to travel and tour with the band while Samantha had went to college, studying graphic design and advertising.
The two of them had shared so many memories, including one very hot and passionate night just before Eric's departure to L.A. when the two had given their innocence to one another.
Samantha had always loved him, she had never stopped; it broke her heart to see him leave but she knew music was his dream and she couldn't take that away from him. Keeping her feelings to herself, she had let him go; taking her heart with him.
"Are you here on business, Sam?" Eric asked, his voice finally tearing Samantha out of her thoughts. "I heard about you landing a job with Elliot and Banks Advertising!! I'm so proud of you!!" He smiled.
His words stabbed at her though.
Elliot and Banks was the nation's third largest advertising company and Samantha had put over six years of hard work into becoming a successful partner in their establishment; until Elliot's son had taken over the position of president in light of his father's retirement.
With his charm and dangerous good looks, Benjamin Elliot was nothing short of a ladies' man; though he was also conceited and hated to hear the word "no."
Before assuming the position as president, he had made more than his share of advancements toward Samantha and in turn she had made more than her share of rejections toward him. For Benjamin, however, becoming her new boss meant her complying with his every want and wish.
