the weird thing

You yawned unshamely as you woke up. You stretched a bit, moving your arms in all sorts of weird directions and angles. You rubbed both of your eyes a little before focusing your vision on something odd.

Really odd.

You saw a thin red string tied around your pinky finger.

What’s this?

You tugged on the string. That’s when you realized that the string is really long. Like, leading-out-of-your-bedroom long. You tried to untie the red string from your pinky finger, but it was tied pretty tightly. It didn’t hurt though.

“Hmm…” you looked at it strangely.

Is this a prank? Who would do this to me?

You shrugged and decided to ignore the red string on your finger for a moment. You got out of bed and freshened up for the morning. It felt odd to see the red string moving about as you did, but it didn’t really bother you. You were surprised that you haven’t tripped over the string yet.

“I’ll just cut it off.” you picked up a pair of scissors from your desk and attempted to cut the red string.

Key word: attempted.

“What the heck?” you kept opening and closing the scissors on the string, but it wouldn’t cut. It seems unbreakable.

“You know what? I’m just going to leave you there for a bit.” you put away your scissors with a huff. You opened your bedroom door and noticed that the red string led downstairs.

What the?

You walked down the stairs. Still noticing that the red string led out of your front door, but you decided to get breakfast instead of following it. You walked into your kitchen and saw your mother.

“Mom, did you do this?” you held up your pinky.

Your mother look at you with a raised eyebrow. “Do what?”

“This!” you lifted up your pinky even higher, dangling the thin red string in the air.

“I don’t understand… Honey, are you okay?” your mother looked at nothing.

“You don’t see it?” you questioned. You were really confused right now.

“See what?” your mother continued to stare at you with concern.

“Uh, nevermind.” you quickly grabbed a piece toast and ran out of the kitchen.

“She’s weird.” your mother shook her head as she washed the dishes.

“How did someone like her come out of my womb?”

You looked at the red string again as you munched on your toast.

My mom couldn’t see this string on my pinky? Is she lying to me? It’s RIGHT there.

You finished your toast and trailed your eyes to where the red string led to again.

Outside your front door.

I might as well see where this leads me to.

You sighed as you stood up. You clapped your hands a bit as you opened her door. You were surprised to see that the red string continued all the way down the street.

Weird.

You sighed as you began to follow the red string. You thought the string was very strange. The excess parts of the string that you already passed didn’t pool up behind you. It’s almost as if someone was pulling the other end of the string.

You've reached the end of published parts.
