Castiel stirred against the leather of the impala, his back stiff from sitting so long. Having became newly human he wasn't used to pain. He glanced over at the sleeping brothers, one in the front seat beside him, the other laid across the backseat, his sock covered feet hanging out the window in the night air. They had been on the road to Bobby’s place, having not seen Bobby in a while. Cas looked over at Dean, observing his demeanor as he slept. His leather jacket missing, no doubt covering Sam as he slept. Dean’s mouth was half open, his eyes fluttering, signaling that he was dreaming. Cas always admired Dean, his tough attitude nothing but a front for Cas. He always saw through it, to the little boy hiding inside, passionate about protecting his little brother, and defending the weak. The superhero that loved pie and secretly read comic books when he thought no one was watching. Castiel liked that about Dean. He missed being an angel, seeing Dean’s bright soul as he tasted his favorite cherry pie. He hated when Dean’s soul would dim, usually meaning he was down. He missed being able to hear Dean’s prayers, or being able to he right beside Dean when he needed him. But what he didn't miss was only seeing Dean’s soul, not seeing what’s on the outside. The bright green eyes that shone bright, even in the darkest night; the way his eyes crinkled as he told the joke’s that Sam scoffed at, and Castiel never got. The way his laugh rang through the bunker as he watched whatever show he was watching. His voice loud against the rock music blasting in baby as they sped down the highway at night. They where all things Castiel had come to love about being human, feeling Dean beside him. The warmth that came from Dean from the short distance away made Cas shiver, longing to be closer. Though he knew Dean would complain. Telling him that two males shouldn't be this close, or that it was “straighter then Sam’s hair”. He didn’t understand why they couldn't be closer, but he accepted it.
As Cas watched, Dean began to stir slightly. There was a small, almost half whimper that escaped his lips before he jerked over a little, turning onto his other side of the leaned back seat. His face scrunched up, and he let out a sniffle.
“No.. No,” Dean mumbled, reaching out into the air as if to fight something off. Cas leaned closer hesitantly, moving towards the middle of the two seats and gently touching Deans bare arm.
“Dean.. Dean its okay, your dreaming,” Castiel mumbled, gently shaking Dean.
“Wh-What, Cas no!”, Dean shouted, sitting up quickly, pushing Castiel away quickly. Cas looked at him, shocked, leaning closer to Dean again, noticing his eyes where still closed.
“Y-You get away from him!”, Dean shouted, causing Sam to stir just a little. Castiel looked at Sam, with a slightly amused look on his face.
“How are you still asleep?”, he mumbled, before turning back to Dean and gently taking Dean’s shoulders in his arms.
“Dean, wake up, I'm right here, nothings wrong,” Cas said louder, and Dean’s eyes opened slowly, before opening his eyes wider, staring at Cas.
“C-Cas…”, Dean mumbled, then for a split second his eyes where wide, and full of Fear; but that was gone all to soon. He pulled away quickly, rubbing his face and grunting slightly.
“Uh.. Sorry.. It was-”, he started, looking down at his legs.
“I know Dean, I'm okay.”, Cas said with a quiet smile, before taking off his trench coat and drapping it onto Dean. Dean breathed in deeply, trying to hide the blush as he stared into Cas’ eyes. Cas stared back knowingly, leaning back to curl up against the other side.
“W-Wait… Cas.. You'll uh..”, Dean mumbled slightly, before clearing his throat and trying to regain his poster.
“Y-You’ll get cold. Here,” Dean said, putting the other half on top of Cas gently, making Cas smile.
“Of course. Thank you Dean,” Cas mumbled, his eyes drooping as his feet found Dean’s, and their legs tangled together under the tan coat. Dean watched as Castiel’s blue eyes closed, and smiled, closing his as well.
Maybe he could get used to this.
