Ok so I was thinking something along the lines of David being a rich man, but he decides to live a simple life with only the two servants and his caretaker living in the cottage with him. Eventually the war reaches his home, and his home is captured by the wolves while he is out hunting one day. In exchange to keep them alive, he surrenders himself to the wolves as well. 

How does that sound?
