"I'm so excited to see Carl, it's been so long," I said to Austin while we waited at the waiting area for passengers at the airport.

"Yeah me too," he said while focusing back to his phone. I didn't even notice a smile on his face.

My best friend Carly nicknamed Carl was dating this douche Austin. He goes to our high school and is an amazing basketball player, which I guess caught Carl's attention. Since she was a basketball player too; she was in love with him. Well preferably his skills; but Carl insists she does love him.

Once I saw her pass the gates I stood up and ran to her. She dropped her suitcase and ran to me. We embraced each other and I felt Austin approach us from behind. I still held her though.

"Carl, babe!" He exclaimed and made her head jolt up. She let go of me and embraced her boyfriend.

"Carl!!" I heard Henna's voice behind us. She was my girlfriend, she also came. Henna and Carl were also best friends but I was her best friend first.

"Oh my gosh!" Carl said to Henna while hugging her as well.

"You guys all came, thank you," she said while smiling.

She's been gone for 2 months to Sochi for the Olympics. She was a figure skater and received a gold medal.

"Anything for my Carlybae," Austin said while snaking his hand around her waist. I don't know why, but this bothered. He would always do this but I was never really affected.

"C'mon let's go, my mom is waiting at home for your welcome back dinner party," I said while shaking my keys at them.

Carl lives with me and my mom because her parents passed away from a car accident. Carl was in the back when it happened. My mom gladly took her in and took care of her. She was only 8 when the incident happened.

"You were so amazing when you performed at the Sochi Carl," Henna mumbled.

"You performed? For what?" Austin bursted out.

"Did you really not know where and why your girlfriend left?" I asked while I focused my eyes on the road. I was a bit ticked off by his cluelessness.

"I'm just kidding geez!" Austin defended.

I looked at my rear view mirror and spotted a look if disappointed on Carl's face. I looked back at her and she just gave me a forced smile. I knew what sort of emotion Carl was feeling, anytime and anywhere. This time she was sad and a little bit mad. Possibly because she always furrows her eyebrows when she's mad, but to people this may look as if she's worried. But that's not the case.

The car ride to her house went silent after Austin's awful remark.

When we arrived home, we were greeted by my mom and the aroma of turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy.

"Carly dear good to have you back home. I'm so proud of your performance at the Sochi Olympics," my mom embraced her into a tight hug. Carl wrapped her arms around my mom tiny waist. She was quite tall and that's probably why I'm also really tall.

"Thank you mama Shane (I don't know Shawn's moms name)" Carl said as she let go of my mom.

"Oh it's no problem dear! Now come on everyone! The dinner is getting cold," she ushered everyone to the dining room. We ate with the feel of happiness in the air.

I knew Carl was pretending to be okay. Something was bothering her.

The dinner finished and everyone went home. When Austin left he didn't bother informing Carl he was going.
